PURPOSE: The Hyde County Historical Society was formed in 1963 to preserve and record the history of Hyde County and its people. In May, 1991, the name of the society was changed to Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership is from 1 January to 31 December. Individual dues are $30.00 per year which gives you one copy of the Spring & Fall issues of High Tides.  Members may submit name/s and date/s of individuals or families they are researching to be published in a future High Tides.

MEETINGS: The Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society meets in the Spring and Fall of each year in various sections of the county.  Members are notified of the meetings in the society's journal, High Tides.

EDITORIAL POLICY: The editors of High Tides solicit information pertaining to Hyde County or its people. The contents are determined by the editors, who reserve the right to edit all material selected. An effort is made by the editors to include both historical and genealogical information in the journals.

LIBRARY The society’s library contains a broad selection of publications, which may be used for research.  The library is located at the Mattamuskeet School Library, 20418 US 264, Swan Quarter, NC 27885.  A copy machine is available for limited copies.  The telephone number for the school library is (252) 926-0310. The resources can be used during school hours, 8am – 2:30pm with access only through a required sign in/sign out procedure at the front office of the school. Summer hours: Mon.-Thurs. 8am-1:30pm, closed Fridays & July 4—access as above.  It is advisable to call the library before planning to use the research materials there.

The Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization.  Contributions to the society are tax deductible as is allowable under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
