Dated 8 Feb 1740/41


In the name of God amen the 8 day of February in the yeare of our Lord 1740/41 I John Worley of North Carolina in the County of Tyrrell being very sick and weak in body but of perfict mind and memory thinks be given unto God, therefore calling unto mind the mortility of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my sole into ye hands of God that gave it, & for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at ye discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the generall ressurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estates wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of in the following manner and form -

Item - I give to my well beloved son Joshua Worley my maner plantation I now dwell on to him and his heirs for ever.

Item - I give to my well beloved daughter Elizabeth Lurry my three negroes Casheball & Moll & Bess to her and her heirs for ever and by reserving the first child that Moll brings to my grandson John Norkom

Item - I gave further to my daughter Lurrey all my household goods excepting one feather bead and furniture to be paid to my grandson Norcom by Thomas Lurry when he comes of age

Item - I give to my grandson John Norkom my mellato wentch Rose to him and his heirs for ever and if encase the child dise in his nonage age then to fall to my daughter Lurry all that I have left him

Item - I give to my loving daughter Penelope Weight all my cattle with a crop in the right eare and an over ceale in the left eare and my sorel horse Derby to her and her heirs for ever

Item - I gave to my daughter Lurry all my stock horses and cattle except one mare that was in disput I gave to my grandson John Norcom and all my meat and corn to my daughter Lurry except as much as will support the negroes the yeare and what is oweing to her and her heirs for ever

I do nominate and apoint Joshua Worley and Thomas Lurrey and William Weight my hole and sole executors to this my last will and testament to see all this will fulfilled and to dispose of two peases of land one called Tetertons and the other lying between Davis and Kimball for to defray charges and pay debts in witness hereof I hereunto set my hand and seall the day and year above ritten

Came before me John Rogers and made oath that he saw John Worley sign seal and publish the within as his last will and testament, that he was of sound & disposing mind & memory at that time, and that Ebenezer Slade and Jane Rogers subscribed as witnesses thereto
At that same time Thomas Lurrey took the oath appointed by law to be taken by executors
