In the name of God amen: This the twenty sixth day of August 1820 I Dennis Sawyer of the County of Tyrrell and state of No Carolina I the said Dennis Sawyer being in perfect health and memory of body but calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed once for all men to die I the said Dennis Sawyer do confess and acknowledge this to be my last will and testament and first of all I recomend my soul into the hands of God that gave it hoping that I shall receive the same again at the great resurection at the last day by the mighty power of God and as for my body I leave that to be decently buried in a Christian manner at the discretion of my friends hereafter named, as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose in the following manner.

Item - To my two daughters Anes and Sabry two cows & calves by the name of Stately and Good Luck my land to be equally divided between my two daughters the land and house from the garden fence to a ditch to the west of the house I leave to my wife her life time or widdowhood then to be divided between my daughters, The rest of my property I lend unto my wife during her widdowhood then to be equally divided between my two daughters at my wifes marrying, the cattle & their increase above named to be divided between my two daughters at the marrying of the first. I leave Josiah Sawyer my friend & neighbour executor to my last will and testament ---

This will was exhibited & proved in open court by the oath of John Weatherly one of the subscribing witnesses thereto who also swore that he saw Timothey Jones the other subscribing witness sign the same as concurrent evidence thereto & ordered to be recorded Test

July Session 1821

The last will & testament of Dennis Sawyer was exhibited & proved in open court by the oath of John Weatherly one of the subscribing witnesses thereto who also swore that he saw Timothy Jones the other witness therein named sign said will, ordered that letters testamentary issue thereon with a coppy of the will annexed - - same time appeared Josiah Sawyer in open court & quallified as executor thereto in due form of law.

October Session 1821

An inventory & account sales of the estate of Dennis Sawyer was returned in open court & filed.

October Session 1824

Ordered that Jno. A. Patrick, Joseph White, Henry Jarman, Abner Sawyer and Stephen Sawyer (or any three of them) audite and settle the estate of Dennis Sawyer deceased with the administrator of Josiah Sawyer deceased who was executor of Dennis Sawyer and also to settle the estate of Josiah Sawyer deceased with the administrator and make report to the next term.

October Session 1828

Ordered that Benj. Sikes be appointed guardian to Sabra Sawyer orphan of Dennis Sawyer.

Execution against William Rus dated 2 Mar 1818 for $36.00.
Rent of the land for 5 years and three months for $27.50.
Cash on hand of $1.45.
