October Session 1832

Ordered that Richard Spruill administer on the estate of Salathiel Spruill deceased & enter into bond in the sum of one thousand dollars with Uri Spruill & Hezekiah G. Spruill his securities.

Ordered that Hez. G. Spruill, Burton Hathaway & Mathias Owens lay off to Polly Spruill widow of Salathiel Spruill deceased her years allowance and report to next term.

Ordered that Richard Spruill administrator on the estate of Salathiel Spruill sell the perishable estate of said deceased.

January Session 1833

Richard Spruill administrator of Salathiel Spruill returned in open court on oath the inventory and account of sales of said estate.

April Session 1842

Ordered that D. S. Godfrey be appointed guardian to Martha Apruill orphan of Salathiel Spruill deceased and that he enter into bond of five hundred dollars with Nathan Alexander & Matthias Owens securities.

Bond dated 22 Oct 1832 in the amount of one thousand dollars appointing Richard Spruill administrator of the estate of Salathiel Spruill deceased, Uri Spruill & Hez. G. Spruill securities.

Laying of of the year's allowance on 16 Nov 1832 to Mary Spruill widow of Salathiel Spruill deceased by H. G. Spruill, Uriah Spruill & B. Hathaway.

Petition January Term 1834 by Mary Spruill widow of Salathiel Spruill deceased who died intestate seized and possessed of one hundred acres of land near Scuppernong River joining Capt. Matthias Owens. She requests that the Sheriff be ordered to appoint a jury to lay off her dower in this land and that a guardian ad litem be appointed for the children that her husband left, Elizabeth & Martha Spruill.

Bond dated 25 Apr 1842 in the amount of five hundred dollars appointing D. S. Godfrey guardian to Martha Spruill with Nathan Alexander & Matthias Owens securities.

Bond dated 28 Apr 1845 in the amount of eight hundred dollars appointing D. S. Godfrey guardian to Martha Spruill with Charles McClees & S. S. Simmons securities.

Bond dated 27 Apr 1847 in the amount of six hundred dollars appointing D. S. Godfrey guardian to Martha Spruill orphan of Salathiel Spruill deceased with Charles McClees & Joseph Alexander securities.

Bond dated 23 Apr 1850 in the amount of five hundred dollars appointing D. S. Godfrey guardian to Martha Spruill with T. L. Jones & Jos. Alexander securities.

Petition April Term 1851 by Thomas Clifton and wife Martha against Benjamin F. Sikes administrator of Dempsey S. Godfrey late guardian to the said Martha. They show that the said D. S. Godfrey was formerly guardian to your petitioner Martha whose maiden name was Martha Spruill and continued as such until his death. Your petitioner Martha has intermarried with your petitioner Thomas Clifton and although B. F. Sikes is aware of this, he refuses to make a settlement. Petitioners request someone be appointed to state the account and that Benjamin F. Sikes be furnished a copy of this petition and made a defendant thereto.

Summons dated the fourth Monday in April 1852 and issued 7 Jul 1852 for H. G. Spruill & Thomas Long to appear in court on the seventeenth of July to testify on behalf of the defendant in a case in which Thos. Clifton and wife Martha is plaintiff and B. F. Sikes administrator of D. S. Godfrey is defendant.

Summons dated the fourth Monday in April 1852 and issued 7 Jul 1852 for L. S. Rice to appear in court on the seventeenth of July to testify on behalf of the defendant in a case in which Thos. Clifton and wife Martha is plaintiff and B. F. Sikes administrator of D. S. Godfrey is defendant.

Summons dated the fourth Monday in April 1852 and issued 7 Jul 1852 for James L. Davenport to appear in court on the seventeenth of July to testify on behalf of the defendant in a case in which Thos. Clifton and wife Martha is plaintiff and B. F. Sikes administrator of D. S. Godfrey is defendant.

Summons dated the fourth Monday in April 1852 and issued 17 Jul 1852 for Henry Bateman to appear in court on the seventeenth of July to testify on behalf of the defendant in a case in which Thos. Clifton and wife Martha is plaintiff and B. F. Sikes administrator of D. S. Godfrey is defendant.

There are other documents that detail some of the testimony given in the above suit. Also the guardian account of D. S. Godfrey for Martha Spruill from 1842 to 1851 with an addendum by B. F. Sikes to 1852. There is a charge to the guardian account for merchandise for Miss Frances Spruill.
