In the name of God amen: The twenty fifth day of September one thousand seven hundred and eighty one I Jeremiah Spruill of No: Carolina in the County of Tyrrell being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this live I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

Imprinis - It is my will and I do order that in the first place all my just debts and funeral charges be paid and satisfyed -

Item - I give to my well beloved daughter Apume Merritt two year old hogs.

Item - I give to my well beloved daughter Elizabeth Giles one young mare.

Item - I give to my well beloved wife Sarah during her widowhood or natural life the use of the one half of my plantation I now live on, also the use of the one half of all my moveable Estate and after her marriage or death to return to my son Jesse Spruill.

Item - I give to my well beloved son Jesse Spruill the one half of a negroe man called Sampson and the one half of my moveable Estate, also I give to my son Jesse Spruill my plantation I now live on to him and his heirs forever, also that part of the movable Estate with the one half of my negroe man Sampson at his mother in law marriage or decease. And I do also make and ordain my wife Sarah and my son Jesse Spruill my only and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament and now hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments Wills Legacies and Executors by me in any wise before this time named willed and bequeathed ratifyed and confirmed this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

January Session 1786

The last will and testament of Jeremiah Spruill deceased being exhibited in open court by Sarah Spruill wife of said deceased was proved by the oath of Hezekiah Norman & ordered to be recorded.

Sarah Spruill wife of said Jerh. Spruill deceased appeared in court and qualifyed executrix to the said deceased last will and testament.

Transcriber's Notes:
Note that Sarah Spruill is termed the mother in law of Jesse Spruill. Unfortunately, there is no record of any marriages by Jeremiah Spruill.
