In the name of God, Amen, I Mary C. Sikes of the county of Tyrrell and the state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but concidering the uncertainty of life do make ordain and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit:

I give and bequeath to my beloved husband C.H.M. Sikes all of my real estate consisting of the land my father George W. Davenport last lived, and died, and known as back landing land, situated on the Scuppernong River in Tyrrell County North Carolina containing about one hundred acres more or less, which lands I inherited from my father George W. Davenport.

And further I give bequeath and devise all of my estate both real and personal of every kind and description names and nature which I have or own or may have or own at my decease to C.H.M. Sikes my beloved husband to him and his heirs and assigns to have and to hold all the property hereto fore mentioned or implied in this will forever. And having the utmost confidence at all times in my beloves husband C.H.M. Sikes I depute nominate and appoint him as my sole executor to execute this my last will and testament according to the ? letter and ? thereof.

Dated 6 September 1884

A paper writing bearing date August 29th 1884 purporting to be the last will and testament of Mary C. Sikes Deceased with C.H.M. Sikes named therein as executor to the same and with the names of Levi N. Tarkenton and M.L. Tarkenton as subscribing witnesses to the same is exhibited in the court for probate and the due execution of the same by the said Mary C. Skies is proven by the oath and examination of said Levi N. Tarkenton and M.L. Tarkenton in manner and form as follows. Levi N. Tarkenton and M.L. Tarkenton being duly sworn deposes and says and each for himself deposes and says that on the day and date named in said paper writing here before the court. They say the said Mary C. Sikes signed said paper writing by writing her name as appears thereon and at the same time in the presence of us the subscribing witnesses thereto did publish and sign and declare said paper writing to be her last will and testament, the having been read over in our presence, And also that the said Levi N. Tarkenton and M.L. Tarkenton in the presence of each other at the request and in the presence of the said Mary C. Sikes did sign their names as subscribing withnesses to said paper writing and also they believe the said Mary C. Sikes at the time of making said will and testament was of sound mind and memory and capable in all respects of making a will.
