In the name of God amen: The 23d day of April in the year of our Lord 1781, I Mary Ray of Tyrrell County and state of North Carolina widow woman being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave all and for my body I Recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following that is to say.

In the first place I give and bequeath to my daughter Mornin Ray the plantation and land whereon I now dwell with all my houshold stuff and furniture things movable as well as things immovable all and singular my goods and wares of every kind by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannull all and every other former Testament Wills and Legacies. I likewise constitute and appoint Everitt Stubbs and John Stubbs Executors of this my last Will and Testament. I disannull all and every former Will or Testament Legacies requests or Executors by me in any ways before this time named willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

October Session 1781

Jesper Hardison appeared in open court and proved the last will and testament of Mary Ray ordered to be registered.

July Session 1785

Returned into court by Robert Davison Esqr. a bond of Richard Cannadys for bastardy vizt. for keeping and supporting a bastard child of Mary Rays deceased sworn to said R. Cannady ordered to be filed amount of bond 500 pounds.
