In the name of God Amen I Richard Routon. of the county of Tyrrell County and st of North Carlina who am weak and sickly in body but of sound mind and memory thanks to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body that it is apointed for all men once to die do make this my last will and testament and first I do recomend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the ground to be buried in a Cristain like maner by my executors herater mentioned and with what worldly goods it hath been please God to bless me with in this life I gave and demise in the followinge manner that is to say - -

Itim I gave and bequath to my son John Routton that part of a track of land as will appear by patent for one hundred and sixty acres and known by the name of Tuskerora which lays on the north side of Second Creek Swamp to him and his heirs forever -

Itim I gave and bequath to my son William Routton that part of a pattant that lays on the south side of Second Creek Swamp to him and his heirs forever -

Itim I gave and bequath to my son Richard Routton my land that fell to me by mother lyinge on the west side of the road to him and his heirs forever -

Itim I gave and bequath to my son James Routton the balence of the land that fell to me by mother lyinge on the east side of sd road to him and his heirs forever -

Itim I lend my bloved wife Sarah Routton the use of the maner plantation whereon I now live duringe her widdowhood and also twenty five acres of cypress swamp -

Itim My will and desire is at the dearth or marage of my wife for my son Edward Routton to have my maner plantation and the twenty five acres of cypress swamp to him and his heirs forever -

Itim I give and bequath to my daughter Nancy Allexander one shillinge starlinge to her and her heirs forever -

Itim I give and bequath to my daughter Patsy Holaway one cow and calf to her and her heirs forever -

Itim I give and bequath to my daughter Prissy Routton one bed and furniture one cow and calf and one lininge wheel to her and her heirs forever -

Itim I give and bequath to my daughter Milla Routton one bed and furniture one cow and calf and one lininge wheel to her and her heirs forever -

Itim I give and bequath to my daughter Saley Routton one bed and furniture one cow and calf and one linninge wheel to her and her heirs forever -

Itim I give and bequath to my daughter Affe Routton one bed and furniture one cow and calf and one linninge wheel to her and her heirs forever -

Itim I lend my beloved wife Sarah Routton ? of all the remainder of my property duringe her widdowhood to raise my younge children and at her dearth or marrage the property here lent to my wife to be eaquelly devided betwen my two youngest children Edward and Affe Routton to them and their heirs forever -

Itim And lastly I hereby apoint my well beloved wife Sarah Routton and my trusty friend James Hassell my lawful exectrixe and executer of this my last will and testament ratifinge this and this only to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and fixed my seal this eight day of March in the year of one thousand eight hundred and sixteen

The last will and testament of Richard Rowton deceased was exhibited in open court and proved by the oath of James Tweedy & ordered filed.

An inventory of the estate of Richard Rowton deceased was returned in court on oath by Sarah Rowton executrix.
