July Session 1813

Ordered that Ozias Roughton have leave of administration on the estate of Edward Roughton deceased with the will enexed and has given bond in the sum of three thousand pounds the above order eraised by order of the court.

Ordered that Thomas Leigh Esqr. be guardian to Lucy Roughton who has given bond in the sum of five hundred dollars James Hoskins Esqr. security.

Ordered that Daniel Sawyer Esqr. be guardian to Rusellah Roughton who gave bond in the sum of five hundred dollars Richard Wood Esqr. security.

Ordered that Samuel Spruill Paul Thoroughgood & Lamuel Basnight be appointed to divide the estate of Edward Roughton agreeable to his last will & testament & make return to next court.

October Session 1813

An account of sales & division of the estate of Edward Roughton was returned to court by Thos. Lee Esqr. and ordered filed.

Ordered that Ozias Roughton sell at a credit of six months a certain negro boy Simon the property of Edward Roughton deceased and make return to next court & that he take bond & security as the law directs.

January Session 1814

The guardian account of Lewcy Roughton was returned to court by Thos. Leigh Esqr. her guardian for the year of 1813 ordered filed.

January Session 1815

The guardian account of Lucy Roughton was returned to court by her guardian Thos. Leigh & filed.

Bond dated 13 Jul 1813 in the amount of two hundred and fifty pounds appointing Daniel Sawyer guardian of Zillah Roughton orphan of Edward Roughton deceased, Richard Wood Esqr. security.

Bond dated 13 Jul 1813 in the amount of two hundred and fifty pounds appointing Thomas Leigh guardian of Lucy Roughton orphan of Edward Roughton deceased, James Hoskins Esqr. security.

Account of sales of the estate of Edward Roughton deceased on 23 Jul 1813. Sales total $77.06.

Petition Jul Term 1813 by Ozias Roughton saying his father Edward Roughton left a last will & testament wherein he gave his property to his wife Ann for life and then to your petitioner and Sally Roughton who intermarried with Enoch Hassell and has since died, leaving a son Edward Hassell living, and Zillah & Lurania Roughton under the age of twenty one and unmarried at this time who are all entitled under said will. He further shows that Ann Roughton the widow is now dead. He further shows that Edward Roughton left his wife and Daniel Roughton executors and that Daniel Roughton never qualified and that Ann Roughton did qualify and is now dead without making any will or appointing any executors and that your petitioner has qualified as administrator with the will annexed to Edward Roughton. Petitioner requests that the estate be divided among the heirs.

Division of the estate of Edward Roughton deceased on 10 Aug 1813. Each of the three daughters was allowed a bed and furniture by the will of Edward Roughton. Ezilla Roughton & Lucy Roughton received $30 each. Each of the daughters was to receive a likely young negro apiece. The heirs of Sally Hassell drew boy Noah, Zilley Roughton drew boy Abel and Lucy Roughton drew boy Eli. Valuation of the remaining negroes was Demsey at $375, Betty & child & Mathias at $375, Nelley & child at $375, Lucy and child at $375 and Simon at $150. The heirs of Sally Hassell drew Demsey, Zilley Roughton drew Lucy and child, Lucy Roughton drew Nelley and child, Ozias Roughton drew Betty and child & Mathias and boy Simon was not divided.

Petition Oct Term 1813 by Ozias Roughton who shows that he is one of the heirs of Edward Roughton deceased who has heirs your petitioner, Zillah, Lurania & Sally Hassell, wife of Enoch Hassell, and that a division has been made of Edward Hassell's personal estate but their remains a negroe boy named Simon who can't be divided among the heirs without a sale. Petitioner requests that he be allowed to make such sale at six months credit.
