Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


October Session 1821

Administration on the estate of Thomas Payne was committed to William Owens who entered into bond with approved security & quallified agreeable to law. Ordered that letters of administration issue thereon & that he proceed to sell the perishable estate of said deceased and account for the same as the law directs.

January Session 1822

Inventory & account sales of the estate of Thomas Payne was returned in open court on oath & filed
amount of account sales ----------- $161.49 1/2
amount of accounts returned on inventory doubtful ----- 13.12

William Owens was appointed guardian to Ann Payne orphan of Thomas Payne deceased who entered into bond in the sum of two hundred & fifty pounds Amos Thoroughgood & John Thoroughgood securities ordered that he receive the estate of said orphans into his possession and account for the same as the law directs.

January Session 1824

Ordered that Lemuel Basnight John Thoroughgood Epraim Mann & Edmund Alexander be appointed to audite & settle the estate of Thomas Payne deceased and make report to the next term.

Ordered that William Owens guardian to Ann Payne be allowed the sum of $72.00 for board & clothing the said Ann Payne from December term 1821 to December term 1823 as per account allowed by the court & filed.

July Session 1824

Ordered that Lemuel Basnight, John Thorogood, Epraim Mann & Edmund Alexander be reappointed to audite & settle the estate of Thomas Payne deceased and make report to the next term.

October Session 1824

The audited accounts of Thomas Payne deceased with his administrator was returned in open court and ordered to be filed.

Bond dated 1 Oct 1821 in the amount of two hundred and fifty dollars appointing William Owens administrator of the estate of Thomas Payne deceased, John Sandlin & Amos Thoroughgood securities.

Bond dated 31 Dec 1821 in the amount of two hundred and fifty dollars appointing William Owens guardian of Ann Payne orphan of Thomas Payne deceased, Amos Thoroughgood & Thomas Thoroughgood securities.

Petition April Term 1827 by William Owens, administrator of Thomas Payne deceased, who states that the vestate is still indebted to him for $92 plus interest due for two years previous to this time. Thomas Payne left as his heirs Fanny Payne, John Payne and Ann Payne an infant and petitioner is her guardian. He asks that the descendants be ordered to pay the $92 out of the real assets that descended to them from the lands of Thomas Payne.

Summons dated the 4th Monday in July 1827 for Fanny Pain, John Pain & Anne Pain by her guardian William Owens to appear at the next term to answer the petition of William Owens.

Bond dated 26 Oct 1835 in the amount of five hundred dollars appointing Thos. M. Midyett guardian of Ann Payne orphan of Thomas Payne deceased, George H. Alexander & Gibeon Alexander securities.

Bond dated 27 Jul 1838 in the amount of five hundred dollars appointing Thos. M. Midyett guardian of Ann Payne orphan of Thomas Payne deceased, H. G. Spruill & Charles McClees securities.
