In the name of God Amen I Thomas Pierce of the county of Tyrrell and state of North Carolina being weak of body but of sound mind and memory blesed be God for it and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do ? recommend my soul into the hand of God that gave it and my body to be buried at the discrestion of my executor hereunder mentioned and as for such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with I dispose of in manner and form as follows -

First my will and disier is that all my just debts be paid secondly I lend the yous of of my plantashion where I now live to my well be loved wife Mary (?) Pierce during her natural life and then one half to my well be loved daughter Sarah Pierce begining at the sound on Thomas Normans line runing along his to the back line and then along the back line to be devidit in the midel -

I give to my well be loved granson C---- Simson the rest of my plantachen and land be longing to it -

I give to my well be loved gransons Stephen Pierce and John Foster forty akers of my back land begining on John Longs line and then to the ? for the complment -

I give to my well be loved granson John Simson twenty five akers ginning Stephen Fosters runing to the ? for the complement -

I give to my well be loved granson Hardy Simson twenty five akers of my back land beginning at John Simson line runing to the ? for the complement -

I give to my well be loved daughters named Jemmima Pierce Pennelpe Pierce Dinar Pierce Joice Pierce the resanue of my land lining in the pocoson -

I give to my well be loved son Isrel Pierce one shilling starling -

I give to my well be loved son Timmothe one shilling starling -

I give to my well be loved grandaughter Easther Simson one heffer blac and white {five unreadable words} -

I give to my well be loved grandaughter Mille Simson one heffer {seven unreadable words} -

I give to my well be loved daughter Sarah Pierce one negro (?) sarvant man -

I give to my well be loved daughter Dianna Pierce one young mair being the youngest -

I give to my well be loved granson Isaac Pierce what ? the old mair will sel for and put the money out on interest til he come of age -

I give to my well be loved wife the resinue of my present estate during her natural life and then to be equal divided amonst all my children except Isrel and Tim and I do constitute and appoint my well be loved frend James Long Cornel my executor {unreadable words} this my hand and seal this eight day of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety five

Petition for dower January Term 1797 in the lands of Thomas Pierce deceased by Mary Pierce his widow. Thomas Pierce died in 1795 seized of two tracts of land, one of about 50 acres on the sound between Thomas Norman & John Long and another of about 140 acres in the Middle Ground between Samuel Chesson & Josiah Spruill.
