Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


January Session 1819

Ordered that Abram Pledger have leave of administration on the estate of Polly Melson who entered into bond in the sum of fifteen hundred pounds Selby Pledger & Frederick Alexander security, ordered that letters of administration issue thereon & that he proceed to sell the estate of said deceased agreeable to law & account for the same as the law directs.

April Session 1819

An inventory & account sales of the estate of Polly Melson was returned on oath in open court & filed.

January Session 1820

Ordered that Abraham Pledger guardian to Mahala Melson be allowed the sum of nine dollars & ninety four cents for clothing said Mahala Melson for 1819 as per acount filed.

July Session 1821

Ordered that Joseph McCleese Frederick Alexander & Henry Alexander be appointed to audite & settle the estate of Mary Melson deceased & make report to the next term.

October Session 1821

Report of auditors on the estate of Mary Melson deceased was returned in open court ballance due the estate $793.30 & filed.

April Session 1822

The following guardians appeared in open court & renewed their guardian bonds agreeable to the act of assembly in that case made & provided as follows viz. - -
Abram Pledger guardian to Mahala Melson

July Session 1822

Ordered that Abraham Pledger guardian to Mahala Melson be allowed the sum of eight dollars seventy five cents for clothing furnished the said Mahala Melson as per his account exhibited & allowed by the court & filed.

April Session 1824

The account sales of the rent of land and hire of negroes belonging to Mahala Melson was produced in open court by her guardian Abraham Pledger amounting to $5.00 dated January 3rd 1824.

Bond dated 10 Jan 1819 in the amount of fifteen hundred pounds appointing Abraham Pledger administrator of the estate of Polly Melson deceased, Frederick Alexander & Sylva Pledger securities.

Sale of the estate of Mary Melson deceased on 28 Dec 1818. Purchasers include Elijah Melson (2), Mahala Melson (2), Elijah P. Melson (1), Pledger Melson (3), John Alexander (2), William Hooker (9), Frederick Davenport (3), William Pledger (4), Jacob Basnight (14), Charlotte Combs (1), John Alexander Junr. (10), William Roughton (3), David Alexander (2), Spencer Ludford (3), John Thoroughgood (6), Joseph Tarkenton (2), John Midyette (2), Samuel Sprewil (4), Selby Patrick (3), Benjamin Jackson (3), Joseph McLeas (1), Uri Sprewil (4), Lemuel Basnight (6), Avy Smith (2), Isak Handcock (1), Abraham Pledger (2), Selby Pledger (1) & Benjamin Sikes (1). Includes the hiring of negroes belonging to the estate of John Melson deceased on 2 Jan 1819. Man Obed was hired by Spencer Midyette and girl Nancy by Lemuel Basnight. Woman Hagar and two children let out to be kept by John Alexander at a cost of $19.96. Income fom sales & hires comes to $396.55 1/2.
