In the name of God amen: I Giles Long Senior of the County of Tyrrell in the State of North Carolina Planter being sick and weak of body but of perfect and sound mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God. But calling to mind the uncertainty of death and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.

First and principally I recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it me, nothing doubting that at the General Resurrection at the last day to receive the same again by the mighty power of God hoping that the merits death and passion of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon of all my sins, and as for my body I recommend to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned, and as for such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bestow on me in this life I leave and dispose of in manner and form following.

Imprimis - My will and desire is that all my just debts and funeral expences be all satisfied and paid.

Item - I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Giles Long thirty seven acres of land beginning at the line between James Long and lying at the South side of the main road and running up that line to the head which said land my said son Giles Long has sold ( with my consent ) to his brother Miles Long and the said Giles Long has by way of firm sale covenanted and promis'd that he nor his heirs will nor shall ever molest nor disturb the said Miles Long nor his heirs forever - And likewise a negroe fellow or mare called Jube.

Item - I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Nehemiah Long one negroe girl named Amarilla and all my cattle marked with a swallow fork in the right ear and a crop and underkeel and slit in the left and one feather bed and the furniture belonging to it to him and his heirs forever.

Item - I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Long son of my son Miles Long in New England one negroe girl named Rose, but if my son James Long pays to my grandson Thomas Long eighty pounds in silver dollars at eight shillings per dollar or the value thereof in corn and pork then my will and desire is that my son James Long should have the said negroe girl.

Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Philips one negroe woman named Moll, but making this reserve that if my son James Long does pay to my daughter aforesaid the sum of ten pounds good and lawfull money then my son James Long is to have the said negroe Moll by my desire -

Item - I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Holland one mare -

Item - I give and bequeath my horses and sheep to be equally divided between my two sons Nehemiah and James Long to them and their heirs forever.

Item - I give and bequeath to my well beloved son James Long my plantation I now live on and all the land thereunto belonging which contains one hundred and thirteen acres and likewise a negroe woman named Isbell and all her increase Also one negroe boy named David, and all my cattle that is marked with swallow fork in the right ear and crop and under keel and two slits in the left ear and all my sheep in the same mark and all the rest of my Estate of whatsoever nature or kind it be to him and his heirs forever.

Lastly - I constitue nominate and appoint my well beloved son James Long whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this only to be my last Will and Testament. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fix'd my seal this twenty seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty two.

Tyrrell County April Term 1785
Personally appeared Isaac Long and William Long and made oath on the Holy Evangelist of almighty God that they saw and heard Giles Long Senr. above named sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the above writing to be his last will and testament and at that time he was of sound mind and memory and at the same time they saw Andrew Long a subscribing witness sign his name thereto and further saith not.

James Long son of Giles appeared in open court and exhibited the last will and testament of Giles Long deceased which was proved by the oath of Isaac Long and William Long & ordered to be recorded, also the said James Long qualifyed as executor to the last will and testament of the said Giles Long deceased.
