Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


January Session 1818

Ordered that Jno. Alexander have leave of administration on the estate of Thomas Ludford deceased and has entered into bond in the sum of one thousand dollars Thos. C. Madden and Danl. Bateman security.

Ordered that Jno. Alexander administrator on the estate of Thomas Ludford deceased and make returns to next court after selling agreeable to law daid deceaseds perishable estate.

April Session 1818

Ordered Selby Patrick Esquire Saml. Spruill & William Combs lay off to Nancy Ludford widdow of Thos. Ludford her years provision agreeable to law & make return to next term.

The inventory & account of sales Thomas Ludford was returned to court on oath by John Alexander and filed.

July Session 1818

The years allowance of Nancy Ludford was returned to court & filed.

October Session 1819

Ordered that Selby Patrick John Midyett Esqr. & Spencer Midyett audite & settle the estate of Thomas Ludford deceased with his administrator & make report to the next term.

January Session 1820

Report of auditors on the estate of Thomas Ludford was returned by John Alexander the administrator ballance due said administrator $97.89 1/4 cts & filed.

On motion it was ordered that the Sheriff summon a lawful jury to lay off to Nancy Ludford wife of Thomas Ludford deceased her dower in the lands of said deceased & make report to the next term.

John Alexander Capt. was appointed guardian to Enoch & Betsy Ludford orphans of Thomas Ludford deceased & entere into bond with approved security ordered that he receive the estate of the said orphans into his possession & account for the same as the law directs.

April Session 1820

Henry Alexander returned in open court the jury report laying off to Nancy Ludford her dower in her deceased husbands lands & filed.

April Session 1821

On motion it was ordered that execution issue against the lands of Thomas Ludford deceased to satisfy certain judgements allowed January term 1820 & that the sheriff sell the same.

July Session 1822

The following persons appeared in open court & renewed their several guardian bonds viz. Mary Liverman guardian to John Liverman's orphans John Alexander Capn. guardian to John Hassell, John Alexander Capn. guardian to Thomas Ludfords orphans John Alexander Capn. guardian to Sarah Crain, and John Alexander Capn. to Charlotte Crain -all of whom entered into bond with approved security & filed.

October Session 1829

Jno. Alexander guardian to Enoch & Betsy Ludford came into court & renewed his guardian bond.

Bond dated 13 Jan 1818 in the amount of five hundred pounds appointing John Alexander administrator of the estate of Thomas Ludford deceased, Thomas C. Maddux & Danl. Bateman securities.

Laying off of a year's provision to Nancy Ludford and her three children out of the estate of her deceased husband, Thomas Ludford, on 30 Jun 1818.

Bond dated 11 Jan 1820 in the amount of five hundred pounds appointing John Alexander guardian to Enoch & Betsy Ludford orphans of Thomas Ludford deceased, Lemuel Basnight & John Alexander Major securities.

Laying off of the dower of Nancy Ludford widow of Thomas Ludford deceased on 24 Mar 1820. Thomas Ludford was seized and possessed of a 222 acre tract on Little Alligator Creek when he died and 75 acres of this tract were layed off for the dower of Nancy Ludford including the plantation house.

Bond dated 2 Jul 1822 in the amount of five hundred pounds appointing John Alexander Capn. guardian to Enoch & Betsy Ludford orphans of Thomas Ludford deceased, Daniel Bateman & Enoch Hassell securities.

Summons for John Alexander guardian of Enoch & Betsy Ludford orphans of Thos. Ludford to appear at next court and renew his guardian bond. Summons issued 20 Aug 1829.

Bond dated 25 Oct 1833 in the amount of six hundred dollars appointing Enoch Ludford guardian of Betsy Ludford, orphan of Thomas Ludford deceased, John H. Combs & Hz. G. Spruill securities.
