State of North Carolina Tyrrel County

In the name of God Amen I John Jordan of the county and state aforesaid being sick and weak of body but of good sound mind and memory thanks be to the almighty God for the same, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First and principilly I do recommend my soul into the hands of the almighty God which give it me nothing doughting but to recieve the same again and my body to be decently buried at the discression of my executors hereafter mentioned

Item. I give and bequeath to my loveing son William Jordan one hundred acres of land lying in Martin County upon the Beaverdam joining on Hutson's line be the same more or less & one horse known by the name of Jack to him and his heirs or assigns forever

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Easther Blount two cows and calves and two ewes and lambs and all their future increase to her and her heirs forever

Item. I give and bequeath to my beloved son John Jordan one hundred acres of land lying in Martin County on Welshes Creek joining the ? line be the same more or less, and one negro boy called Henry one good bed and furniture one iron pot and one pair of iron weages to him and his heirs forever

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Russel O. Fancys filly mair and one iron pot and two ewes and lambs and all their future increase to her and her heirs forever

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Jordan one negro girl named Scotty and one bed and furniture and one iron ot to her and her heirs forever

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Jordan one negro girl named Rose and one bed and furniture and one iron pot to her and her heirs forever

Item. I lend to my mother Sarah Fagan my cattle hogs sheep and mair that she has now in her possession dureing her natureal life and at her death returned with all their increase and to equally devided amongst my six children

Item. I lend to my well beloved wife Sarah Jordan my negro fellow Fortin and my wench Thone together with all my household goods and furniture and all my stock and stocks that is not here before given for her to have the use of dureing her natureal life and at her death to be returned with all the increase and to be equally devided between my six children viz. Easter, William, John, Mary, Sary and Elisabeth likewise my will and desire is that my wife Sarah Jordan shall have all my ready money and and receive all my money debts, and pay all my just debts and funeral expences - -

I constitute denominate and appoint my son John Jordan and my wife Sarah Jordan executors to this my last will and testament in testamony thereof I have set my hand and fixt my seal this 21 day of April 1780

Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


January Session 1782

The last will and testament of John Jordan was proved in open court by the oath of Isaac Airs ordered to be registered also John Jordan appeared in open court and quallified executor to said will.

April Session 1783

Ordered that Sarah Jordan deliver up to John Jordan all the books and notes, bonds & money that her husband John Jordan died possessed with & in case there should not be a sufficiency of the above mentioned articles to discharge the said deceaseds debt then & in that case the said John Jordan have leave to sell as much of the perishable part of the sd deceaseds estate as will discharge the deceaseds debts.

April Session 1788

Ordered that John Jordan executor of John Jordan deceased have leave to sell the estate left Sarah Jordan his widow in life & after her decease to be divided among his representatives agreeable to the said deceaseds last will & testament.

Division of the estate of John Jordan deceased dated 14 Jun 1788. Heirs are Richard Stubbs, Elizabeth Jordan, heirs of William Jordan, Thomas Russell, Jacob Blount & John Jordan. Each received 64 pounds, 11 shillings & 4 pence, primarily in notes and credit on purchases made at vendue. Division by Robt. Davison, J. Frasier & E. Blount Junr.

Account of sales of the estate of John Jordan Senr. dated 1 May 1788 by Edmund Blount, Sheriff.
