In the name of God Amen this 12th day of February I Corben Jones of the county of Tyrrel and state of North Carolina I the said Corben Jones being in perfect helth and ? of body but caling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed once for all men to die I the said Corben Jones do ? and ? this to be my last will and testament and first of all I recomend my soul into the hands of God that give it hoping that I shall receive the same at grate resurrection at the last day by the mighty power of God and as for my body I leave that to be decently buried in a Christian manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and dispose of in the folowing manner and form -

I give unto my three sons Thomas Jones Corben Jones and Hugh Jones the plantation that I live on at the time known by the name of Kilcaney ?

April Session 1818

The last will & testament of Corban Jones Senr. deceased was proved in open court by the oath of Timothy Jones Esqr. & Hugh Jones and ordered recorded.

Timothy Jones Esquire came into court and qualified executor to the last will & testament of Corban Jones Senr. deceased.

Ordered that Timothy Jones executor of Corban Jones Senr. deceased have leave to sell the perishable estate of said deceased & make returns to next court.

Ordered that Hugh Jones be appointed guardian to Poly and Pelege Jones orphans of Corban Jones deceased and has entered into bond in the sum of five hundred pounds, Richard Davis & Jno. Alexander his security.

July Session 1818

The account of sales of the estate of Corban Jones deceased was returned in court by Timothy Jones Esqr. on oath - - filed.

Ordered that Hugh Jones guardian to Polly & Peledge Jones orphans of Corben Jones deceased remove the estate of said orphans out of the hands of Timothy Jones Esqr. executor to Corben Jones deceased.

Ordered that Hugh Jones guardian to Polly & Peledge Jones orphans of Corben Jones deceased have leave to sell the estate of said orphans agreeable to law & make return to next term.

October Session 1818

Inventories & accounts of sales of the estates of Mary Banks, Joseph Crane, William Howett, of the orphans of Corbin Jones deceased & Joshua Powers deceased was returned proved in open court & ordered to be filed.

October Session 1819

Ordered that John A. Patrick David Clayton & Joseph White audite & settle the estate of Corben Jones deceased with the administrator & make return to next term.

January Session 1820

Report of auditors on the estate of Corben Jones deceased with a ballance due the estate of $252.66 was returned in open court & filed.

Account of sales of the estate of Corbin Jones deceased by Timothy Jones, executor, on 11 May 1818. Purchasers were Bennet Armstrong (6), William Cohoon of Jno., Corbin Jones (37), Hugh Jones (33), Thomas Jones (38), Timothy Jones (5), Timothy Jones Junr. (2), Dempsey Liverman, Hardy Powers (6), Zebee Smith, Joseph White, Widow (13). Total sales were $311.14. Also has a list of items that were devised in the will and excepted from sale.

Summons issued 12 Jan 1819 for Corbin Jones to appear in court on the second Monday of April next to answer unto Timothy Jones executor of Corbin Jones deceased of a plea that he owes the estate $85.97. There is also a note for that amount dated 18 Oct 1817 by Corbin Jones Junr. to Corbin Jones Senr..

ond dated 14 Apr 1818 in the amount of five hundred dollars appointing Hugh Jones guardian to Polly & Peledge Jones orphans of Corbin Jones deceased, Richd. Davis & Jno. Alexander securities.


Transcriber's Notes:
Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Corbin Jones to Dorcas Cohoon on an unspecified date in the 1790s, John Gibson security; also Corbin Jones to Mary Barncastle on an unknown date, Jo. White security; also Corbin Jones to Betheany Swindal on 14 Jan 1812, Joseph White security.
It appears that Corbin Jones Senr. was first married to Dorcas Cohoon and then Mary Barnacastle and that Corbin Jones Junr. was married to Betheany Swindal.
