January Session 1799

Ordered that Hagar Jones have leave of administration on the estate of Bartlett Jones deceased and give bond & security in the sum of 2,000 pounds William McDaniel Peter Brickhouse & Joseph Snell securities and quallifyed.

Hagar Jones administratrix of the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased returns in open court on oath an inventory of said estate ordered filed.

Ordered that Hagar Jones administratrix of Bartlet Jones deceased have leave to sell the perishable part of the estate of said deceased and make returns to next court.

July Session 1799

An account of sales of the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased was returned in open court amounting to 266 pounds, 8 shillings & 9 pence with the hire of the negroes ordered filed.

October Session 1799

A second inventory of the estate of Bartlett Jones deceased was returned in open court on oath ordered filed.

Allso an account of sales of said estate to the amount of 19 pounds, 4 shillings & 6 pence ordered filed.

January Session 1801

Ordered that Timothy Jones be appointed guardian Thomas Jones orphan of Bartlett Jones deceased and hath given bond in the some of one thousand pounds Thomas Hoskins Junr. and Joseph White securities.

Ordered that Thomas Jones orphan of Bartlett Jones deceased be bound to Timothy Jones until he arrives the age of 21 years to learn the art and mistery of a cordwinder & slay maker and to be educated agreeable to the law in such case made and provided.

Ordered that Thomas Hoskins Senr. Esqr. Maj. Jno. Clayton & John A. Patrick be appointed to audite and divide the estate of Bartlett Jones deceased and make returns to next court.

April Session 1801

Ordered that Mrs. Hager Jones be appointed guardian to Polley Jones Barney Jones Bartlett Jones Betsey & Timothy Jones orphans of Bartlett Jones deceased and hath given bond in the some of three thousand pounds Hezekiah Brickhouse Wm. Clayton Peter Brickhouse Senr. & Peter Brickhouse of Matthew Major securities.

The audited account of Hager Jones administratrix of the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased was returned and find a ballance due for the year of 1799 of 13 pounds & 10 shillings.

The 2nd account of Hager Jones administratrix of the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased was returned in court and find a ballance due in the year of 1801 of 1 pound & 8 shillings.

January Session 1802

It appearing to the satisfaction of the court that Hager Jones late widdow of Bartlet Jones deceased now Hager Brickhouse guardian to the orphans of Bartlett Jones deceased has intermarried with Hezekiah Brickhouse one of the securities by which mariage the securityship of said Brickhouse is annulled be it ordered that a citation issue from the clerk of the court to said Hezekiah Brickhouse & Hager his wife to show cause why they should not give the court further security.

April Session 1802

Ordered that Samuel Spruill & John Clayton Esqrs. with Mr. Richard Howett be appointed they or a majority be appointed to audite and divide the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased with the administratrix and make return to next court.

Ordered that Levi Bateman be appointed guardian to the heirs of of Bartlet Jones deceased viz. Ollender Jones Polly Jones ??????? Jones Barneby Jones Bartlet Jones Betsy Jones Timothy Jones -- and has entered into bond in the sum of two thousand pounds Capt John Bateman & Zebn. Tarkenton securities.

Ordered that Jno. Clayton Esqr. Abner Alexander Esqr. and Thomas Hoskns Senr. or a majority of them be appointed to audite and divide the accounts between the administratrix & guardian estate of Bartlet Jones deceased among the heirs and make returns to next court.

Ordered that John Clayton Abner Alexander Esqr. Thomas Hoskins Senr. Jno. Bateman Thomas Liverman Esqr. be appointed to divide the land of Bartlet Jones deceased and make return to next court.

July Session 1802

Ordered that Jno. A. Patrick be appointed guardian to Allender Jones and has entered into bond in the sum of five hundred pounds Timothy Jones and Joseph White securities.

Ordered that Abner Alexander Esqr. James Hoskins Jno. Clayton Esqr. Thos. Liverman Esqr. and Jno. Bateman Capt. or the majority of them be appointed to audite and divide the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased among the representatives and make return to next court.

January Session 1803

Capt. John Bateman returned in court the division of the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased filed.

July Session 1803

Levi Bateman returned in court on oath the account of sales of negroes belonging to the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased amount 65 pounds, 15 shillings & 6 pence filed.

The petition for a partition of land from the heirs of Bartlet Jones was entered and filed in the office.

January Session 1804

Ordered that Hezh. Brickhouse be allowed the sum of twelve pounds for ministering ? & keeping 2 children orphans of Bartlet Jones deceased under 7 years old named Betsy & Timothy for the year 1803.

July Session 1804

William Clow returned in court the division of the land between the heirs of Bartlet Jones deceased agreeable to petition filed at April Term 180.

Ordered that Paul Thoroughgood Esqr. Jared Basnight & Daniel Sawyer be appointed to audite and setle the estate of Bartlet Jones deceased and make return to next court.

July Session 1805

Ordered that Joseph White John Clayton and Thomas Liverman Esquire be appointed to audite and settle the accounts with Jno. A. Patrick Esquire and Ollinder Jones and make return to next court.

Ordered that Bartlet Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones deceased be bound to Sibley Armstrong to learn the art and mistery of a cordwiner.

Ordered that the guardians of the children of Bartlet Jones deceased have leave to take the children out of the posession of their mother.

July Session 1806

Ordered that John Clayton Joseph White and Thomas Liverman of Wm. be appointed to audite and settle the accounts between Jno. A. Patrick guardian to Ollender Jones alias Armstrong and Silby Armstrong and make return to next court.

October Session 1807

Ordered that Levi Bateman be appointed guardian to Mary Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones deceased and that he take the said Mary Jones and her estate into his possession as she is insane as by the report of the jury above will appear and that he give bond in the sum of five hundred dollars with securitys Colo. Jesse Alexander and Joseph Bateman.

Ordered that Timothy Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones be bound to Seth Phelps and to be educated agreeable to law.

May Session 1808

Ordered that Silby Armstrong be appointed guardian to Bartlet Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones and has given bond in the sum of one thousand pounds Russell Armstrong his security.

August Session 1808

Ordered that the appointment of Silby Armstrong as guardian to Bartlet Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones deceased be rescinded and the clerk revoke the bond given by the said Silby Armstrong.

February Session 1809

Ordered that Jno. A. Patrick Joseph White Thomas Liverman Justice B. Liverman & Ruben Cohoon be appointed to go with the Surveyor & divide the lands of Bartlet Jones & John Pool deceased between the representatives agreeable to will of deceased.

January Session 1822

Timoth Jones was appointed guardian to Polly Jones orphan of Bartlett Jones who entered into bond in the sum of two hundred & fifty pounds with David Cahoon & Mathew Brickhouse securities ordered that he receive the estate of said orphan into his possession & account for the same as the law directs.

Inventory of the estate of Bartlett Jones dated 27 Jan 1799.

Guardian bond dated 27 Jul 1802 in the amount of five hundred pounds appointing Jno. A. Patrick guardian of Ollender Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones deceased, Timothy Jones & Joseph White securities.

Petition in October Term 1803 of Hezekiah and Hagar Brickhouse seeking dower in the lands of Bartlett Jones. States that Bartlett Jones died in 1798 and that your petitioner Hagar his widow has since intermarried with Hezekiah Brickhouse. At the time of his death Bartlett Jones was seized and possessed of a 100 acre tract where he lived; 50 acres that was part of the plantation where John Poole Esquire formerly lived; 100 acres joining the land of Benjamin Baker Senr. deceased; 50 acres on the west side of Alligator River; 37 acres joining David Jones; and 100 acres of juniper swamp. Hagar has not received her dower to date and requests a jury be appointed to lay it off.

Petition in April Term 1803 by the heirs of John Poole deceased. Petitioners include Ollender Jones an orphan under the age of 21 years by her guardian John A. Patrick; Thomas Jones an orphan under the age of 21 years by his guardian and next friend Timothy Jones; and Mary, Barnaby, Elizabeth, Timothy & Bartlett Jones all orphans under the age of 21 years by their guardian and next friend Levi Bateman & Peter Brickhouse. John Poole Esqr. died in 1794 and in his will left one tract of land to his sons in law, Bartlet Jones, father of your petitioner Olender Jones, Robert Jones & Peter Brickhouse, your other petitioner. Another tract of 100 acres was left to his wife Dorcas, his son in law Bartlet Jones, Robert Jones, Mary Neal, and Peter Brickhouse. No division ever took place in the lifetime of Bartlet Jones and the petitioners are requesting that it be done now. However, division can not be effected without court order due to the fact some petitioners are minors. Request a copy of this petition be served on Dorcas Poole, Ezekiel Brickhouse, Robert Jones & Mary Neal or their representatives.

Petition April Term 1803 of Timothy, Bartlet, Elizabeth, Mary & Barnaby Jones all orphan children of Bartlet Jones deceased under the age of 21 by Levy Bateman, their guardian and next friend, & of Ollender Jones also an orphan under the age of 21 by John A. Patrick her guardian and next friend, and of Thomas Jones by Timothy Jones his guardian and next friend. Their father Barlet Jones died seized and possessed of considerable property which was initially administered by his widow Hagar Jones. She subsequently intermarried with Hezekiah Brickhouse who then became administrator of the estate. On 30 Dec 1802 the estate was settled and there was a balance in favor of the estate of 154 pounds, 3 shillings & 2 pence, and despite repeated requests, Hezekiah has refused to disburse the funds. Requesting a subpoena issue against him.

Petition in October Term 1803 by the orphans of Bartlett Jones for partition of the lands of his estate. Petitioners include Ollender Jones an orphan under the age of 21 years by her guardian John A. Patrick; Thomas Jones an orphan under the age of 21 years by his guardian and next friend Timothy Jones; and Mary, Barnaby, Elizabeth, Timothy & Bartlett Jones all orphans under the age of 21 years by their guardian and next friend Levi Bateman. Lands include a tract of samp on the east side of Great Alligator River adjoining the lands of John Gray Blount; two tracts of land on the west side of said river adjoining David Jones; one tract of land on the west side of said river adjoining Justus Liverman; one tract of land on the west side of said river adjoining Isaac Meekins; and one tract of land on the west side of said river adjoining James Cohoon.

Summons dated 25 April 1804 and issued 5 May 1804 for Peter Brickhouse to appear and answer the allegation in the petition of the heirs of Bartlet Jones deceased against him as their former guardian.

Execution dated 28 Jan 1807 and issued 7 Feb 1807 issued against Robert Jones Mary Neel Peter Brickhouse Dorcas Pool and the heirs of Bartlet Jones deceased for court costs. No bidders for negro man Sutton on previous execution.

Guardian bond dated 27 Oct 1807 in the amount of two hundred and fifty pounds appointing Levi Bateman guardian of Mary Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones deceased, Jesse Alexander & Joseph Bateman securities.

Guardian bond dated 5 May 1808 in the amount of one thousand pounds appointing Silby Armstrong guardian of Bartlet Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones deceased, Russall Armstrong security.

Undated guardian bond with no amount appointing Timothy Jones guardian of Thomas Jones orphan of Bartlet Jones deceased, Thomas Hoskins & Joseph White securities.

Petition dated February Term 1809 by Thomas Hopkins in right of his wife Keziah and Keziah his wife. States that John Poole and Bartlet Jones were jointly seized of 600 acres on the west side of Alligator River joining Poole's own line, Frying Pan Swamp, Cahoon, Vollivey, James Cahoon, Hillery Baker as described in the patent granted to John Poole & Bartlet Jones on 28 Sep 1791. The will of John Poole devised 100 acres of this land to Keziah Poole who since intermarried with Thomas Hopkins. Bartlet Jones died intestate leaving heirs Olly Jones, since intermarried with Sylbee Armstrong, Thomas Jones, Mary Jones, Barney Jones, Bartlet Jones, Timothy Jones & Elizabeth Jones infants under age. Requesting division of this land.

Petition January Term 1814 by Barney Jones and Bartlet Jones two of the heirs of Bartlet Jones deceased. Their father Bartlet Jones was security of a guardian bond for Mary Clayton & Benja. S. Clayton appointing their father John Clayton as their guardian. The said John Clayton is fast approaching insolvency and they pray the their father's estate may be discharged from this bond.
