Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


May Session 1808

Ordered that Jno. A. Melson have leave of administration on the estate of Betsy Hassell deceased and has entered into bond in the sum of fifty pounds Colo. Jesse Alexander and John Alexander his securities.

Ordered that Jno. A. Melson have leave to sell the estate of Betsy Hassell and make return to next court.

August Session 1808

John A. Melson returned in court on oath the account of sales and inventory of the estate of Elizabeth Hassell deceased.

Ordered that Jno. A. Melson have the following persons appointed to audite the estate of William Hassell and Betsy Hassell to wit Thomas Garrett William Combs and John Alexander son of Michael.

June Session 1810

Ordered that Uriah Patrick be appointed guardian to John Hassell orphan of Betsy Hassell deceased & has given for security Solomon Hassell Esqr. and Henry Galloway.

Ordered that Samuel Spruill Thomas Leigh and William Combs be appointed to audite and settle the estate of William Melson and Elizabeth Hassell & make due return.


Transcriber's Notes:
Betsy Hassell appears to be the wife of William Hassell who died in late 1807 or early 1808. See court and estate records for him. John A. Melson was administrator for both William and Betsy as well as William Melson at about the same time.
Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of William Hassel to Elizth. Birtch on 13 Jan 1784, Nicholas Gilbird security. This is possibly the above Betsy Hassell.
