In the name of God Amen the eighth day of October one thousand seven hundred and seventy I Abraham Hassell of Tyrrell County being sick and weak in body but of a perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of the body and knowing that his appointed for all men once to die I do make and this my last will and testement that his to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave itt and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christion like and decent manner att the derection of my executors not doubting but at the general Resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate where it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form

First I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson Abraham Hassell son of John Hassell one mare and one heffer -

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson Abraham Hassell son of Benjaman Hassell one mare and one heffer -

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson Abraham Howet son of Richard Howet deceased one mare and one heffer -

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved grandaughter Prissilla Brickhouse daughter of Richard Howet deceased one breesing (?) cow -

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved son John Hassell the whole tract or survey of land where on he now lives commonly known by the name of the Black Oak Land likeways my negro fellow Jack and my negro wench Judo to him and his heirs and his heirs heirs for ever -

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved son Zebedee Hassell all that tract or parcle of land where I now live likewise my negro garole Flora and my negro boy George and negro garole Hannah to him and his heirs and his heirs heirs for ever -

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Prissilla Nickels one negro girdle named Nell and one negro girdle named Plesant to her and her heirs heirs for ever -

Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Hassell one disk -

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Zebedee Hassell one hand mill and one grinding stone and all the remainder of my horse kind and all the remainder of my husbandray tools and my smith tools to be equil devided between my sons John Hassell & Zebedee Hassell -

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Zebedee Hassel and my daughter Prissilla Nickels all the remainder of my cattle hogs and sheep to be equally devided among them -

Item I give and bequeathy unto my beloved daughter Ann Wyatt one shilling sterling -

Item I give and bequeathy unto my beloved son Benjaman Hassell one shilling sterling -

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Prissilla Hassel one bed and furniture binding my executors and executrix to find her a negro wench or negro girdle to attend on her dureing her natureal life like ways to find her suficient meat drink cloaths and other nessesarys as his suficiant for a woman in her compasity -

I give and bequeath all the remainder of my estate unto my son John Hassel my son Zebedee Hassel and my daughter Prissilla Nickles to be equil devided amonst them makeing John Hassel Zebedee Hassel and Prissalla Nickels my sole executors & exetrix of this my last will and testement and I do here by disalow revoke and disanul all and every other former testaments confirming this and no other to be my last will and testement, in witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and year above written

Tyrrell County August Term 1771
Personally appeared John Chantrell and made oath on the Holy Evangelist of allmighty God that he heard and saw Abraham Hassell declare sign and seal this his last will & testament and further saith that he was of sound mind and memory & that he saw Elisha Hassell & Gidion Alexander sign as witness at the same time
