In the name of God- amen: I John Hassell of the province of North Carolina and County of Tyrrel being sick & weak in body but of sound & perfect mind & memory thanks be to the Almighty God for the same & calling to mind the mortallity of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this to be my last will & testament first & principally I recommend my soul to God to God that gave it & my body to the earth to be buried in a decent & Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned & as touching such wordly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give & dispose thereof in the manner & form following.

Imprimis- I give unto my dearly beloved wife Rachel Hassell all my moveable estate of what nature or kind soever to her proper use forever except such Legaceys as are petucalary otherwise mentioned & disposed of.

Item- I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son John Hassell a plantation on the West side of Scuppernong River containing one hundred acres & known by the name of the Plains unto him & his heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son Joseph Hassell one hundred acres of land on the East side of Scuppernong River lying on the North side of the leading swamp, beginning at the head of the leading swamp at a gum from thence to the poplar line unto him & his heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give & bequeath unto my well beloved son Isaac Hassell one hundred acres of land on the East side of Scuppernong River on the North side of the Leading swamp beginning at the poplar line, from thence to the three marked pines at Phelpses swamp unto him & his heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give & bequeath unto my well beloved son Benjamin Hassell my Manner Plantation and the said land belonging after his mothers decease to him & his heirs & assigns for ever.

Item- I give & bequeath unto my two sons Isaac Hassell & Benjamin Hassell a negroe man named Robin after their mothers decease to them their heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give unto my daughter Mary Wynne five shilling currt money of Virginia to her & heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give unto my daughter Rachel Ward five shillings current money of Virginia to her & her heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give to my daughter Sarah Fox five shillings current money of Virginia to her & her heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give to my daughter Esther Hassel five shilling current money of Virginia unto her & her heirs & assigns forever.

Item- I give to my four sons before mentioned my saws & carpenters tools and coopers tools & shoe makers tools after their mothers decease to them & their heirs forever.

Lastly- I constitute ordain & appoint my beloved wife Rachel Hassel my whole and sole executrix of this my last will & testament utterly renouncing & revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made ratifying & confirming this to be my last Will & Testament In Witness whereof I the said John Hassel have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal the twenty fifth day of March Anno Dom 1734.

Present his Majestys Justices.

These may certify that Jounnah Wynne one of the subscribing evidences to the within Will personally appeared in open Court & made oath on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God that he was present & saw John Hassel sign, seal, publish, pronounce, & declare the within to be & contain his last will & testament & that he was then & that time of sound & disposing memory & that he also saw Thomas Wynne & Peter Wynne sign their names thereto at the same time. Then also appeared Rachael Hassel & quallifyed as executrix by taking the oath by law appointed to be taken by executors, ordered that the Honble James Murray Esqr secretary of this province or his deputy have notice thereof that letters testamentary may issue thereon as the law directs.
