January Session 1805

Ordered that Edmund Hopkins orphan of Samuel Hopkins deceased be bound apprentice to Thomas Leigh to learn the house carpenter and joining trade.

January Session 1825

Upon motion it was ordered that administration be granted to Ann Mary Hopkins widow of Edmund Hopkins deceased who was duly qualified & entered into bond and gave as security Caleb Brickhouse & Eby Phelps which securities were approved by the court and ordered to be accepted.

April Session 1825

Ordered that Enoc Hassell Esqr., Richd. Howett, Fredrick Davenport & Zebulon Spruill be appointed commissioners to lay off and allott to Ann Mary Hopkins widow of Edmund Hopkins deceased an allowance for the support of herself and family for one year out of the estate of the said deceased agreeably to act of assembly.

October Session 1825

Ordered that the children of Edmund Hopkins named Major & Lydia and the orphan of David Ambrose at the house of Zebedee Tarkenton and the child named Edward of Rosina Spencer be brought to the next term.

Hopkins, Edmund, 1825


Bond dated 25 Jan 1825 in the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars appointing Ann Mary Hopkins administratrix of the estate of Edmund Hopkins deceased, Caleb Brickhouse & Eby Phelps securities.

Petition October term 1825 from Ann Mary Hopkins widow of Edmund Hopkins deceased for dower in the lands of her deceased husband who died intestate. Land was adjoining William Brickhouse, Caleb Brickhouse and others.

Execution dated 16 Jan 1826 against the goods and chattels of Edmund Hopkins deceased to satisfy a judgement obtained by Henry Alexander obtained against Ann Mary Hopkins administratrix of said deceased for five dollars. No goods and chattels were found and it was proposed the levy be on the land of Edmund Hopkins deceased adjoining Peter Brickhouse & Caleb Brickhouse.

Court order the 4th Monday in April 1826 for the sheriff to summon a jury and lay off the dower of Ann Mary widow in the lands of her late deceased husband Edmund Hopkins. Dower of 23 acres out of a 70 acre tract on the south side of Albemarle Sound joining Caleb Brickhouse was layed off to the widow on 8 Jul 1826.

Summons issued the 4th Monday in April 1826 to Caleb Brickhouse guardian ad litem to Samuel Hopkins, Lidy Hopkins, Major, Hoda & Thomas infant heirs of Edmund Hopkins deceased to appear at the next court term to show cause, if any, why judgement and execution should not proceed against the lands of Edmund Hopkins deceased. Henry Alexander obtained the judgement for five dollars plus costs and interest.

Summons issued the 4th Monday in April 1826 to Caleb Brickhouse guardian ad litem to Saml. Hopkins, Lydia, Major, Gehoda & Thos. Hopkins infant heirs of Edmund Hopkins deceased to appear at the next court term to show cause, if any, why judgement and execution should not proceed against the lands of Edmund Hopkins deceased. Simeon Rhodes obtained the judgement for $11.50 plus costs and interest.
