In the name of God amen: I Elizabeth Hopkins of the township of Edenton and State of North Carolina Tyrell County being sick and very weakly but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die first I recommend my soul to God that gave it and my body to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors ---

Secondly - I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Thomas Hopkins one horse one yoke of oxen one feather bed and furniture five stocks of bees and all the hogs that I possess to him and his heirs forever ---

Thirdly - I give and bequeath to my well beloved daughter Meriam Hopkins one cow and calf one ewe and lamb to her and her heirs forever ---

Fourthly - I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Philip Hopkins five shillings lawfull money her having already received all the property left him by me and also all that I intended him his heirs forever ---

Fifthly - I give and bequeath to my well beloved daughter Elizabeth Spruill five shillings lawfull money she having recd. All the property left her by me to her and her lawfull heirs forever ---

Sixthly - I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Thomas Hopkins and Meriam Hopkins all of the remaining part to be equally divided between them their heirs and assigns forever ---

Severthly - And Lastly I do make constitute and appoint my well beloved son Thomas Hopkins and Philip Hopkins my executors to this my last Will and Testament disannulling and revoking all other Wills heretofore by me made and do constitute and make my son Thomas Hopkins and Philip Hunnings my whole and sole executors to this my Will and Testament In witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Hopkins have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of September one thousand eight hundred and four.

The last will and testament of Elizabeth Hopkins was proved in open court by the oath of Archibald Howett and William Howett filed.

Thomas Hopkins came into open court and quallified executor to the last will and testament of Elizabeth Hopkins deceased.


Transcriber's Notes:
Reference to the will of John Hopkins in 1783 will show that Elizabeth Hopkins was his wife. Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of John Hopkins to Betsy Howett in 1781, Phillip Hopkins and Samuel Hopkins securities.
