January Session 1832

Ordered that Jonathan Tweedy be appointed administrator to the estate of Robert Holmes who offered for security John Roughton & Charles Johnson.

Ordered that Amos Thoroughgood, Hez. G. Spruill Jacob Basnight & Anthony Ward be commissioners to lay off to Robert Holmes widow her years allowance.

April Session 1832

An inventory and account of sales of the estate of Robert Homes deceased was returned on oath in open court by Jonathan Tweedy the administrator.

January Session 1833

Jonathan Tweedy returned the hire of the negroes of Robert Holmes for the year 1833.

April Session 1834

Ordered that H. G. Spruill, Amos Thoroughgood & Jacob Basnight settle the estate of Robert Holmes with Jonathan Tweedy the administrator.

January Session 1842

Jonathan Tweedy returned the account of sales of negro hire belonging to the heirs of Robert Holmes deceased for 1842.

Bond dated 23 January 1832 in the amount of one thousand dollars appointing Jonathan Tweedy administrator of the estate of Robert Holmes deceased, John Roughton & Charles Johnson securities.

Bond dated 23 Jan 1838 in the amount of three thousand dollars appointing Jonathan Tweedy guardian of James, Fanny, Henry, Sally Ann orphans of Robert Holmes deceased, Charles McCleese & Thomas Hassell securities.

Bond dated 27 Apr 1846 in the amount of five hundred dollars appointing Jonathan Tweedy guardian of Henry Holmes orphan of Robert Holmes deceased, Uri Spruill & Jos, Owens securities.

Petition October Term 1847 by James Holmes, Anne Holmes, Thomas Wright and wife Frances adult heirs and Henry Holmes infant heir at law of Robert Holmes deceased by his guardian Jonathan Tweedy. Petitioners show that they are tenants in common of about 4 negroes to wit, Dolly, Orris, March & Edmund which they inherited by the death of Robert Holmes and they are desirous of having a division of said negroes. Freeholders appointed to make the division were John McClees, Benj. Spruill & Isaac W. Parker.

Division of the negroes of Robert Holmes deceased among the heirs at law on 1 Jan 1848 at the Fort Landing on Little Alligator. Heirs at law are Dolly - Number 1 - $75
Horris - Number 2 - $800
March - Number 3 - $800
Edmund - Number 4 - $450
$2125 divided by 4 = $531.25

Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Robert Holms to Ann Tweedy on 6 Mar 1821, Richard Roughton security; also James Homes to Mary Tweedy on 28 Apr 1845, Jonathan Tweedy security; also Thomas Right to Frances Holmes on 8 Jun 1845.

See the 1842 will of David Tweedy Sr., which shows that Ann Tweedy was a sister of Jonathan Tweedy.

Charles W. Barnes
