July Session 1801

Ordered that Mrs. Comfort Homes have leave of administration on the estate of Henry Homes deceased and has entered into bonds of two thousand pounds Paul Thoroughgood & Samuel Jackson Esqr. securities.

Ordered that Mrs. Comfort Homes have leave to sell the perishable estate of Henry Homes deceased & make returns to next court.

October Session 1801

Richard Howett Samuel Rudder & Paul Thoroughgood Samuel Jackson Esqr. returns in court an allowance made for the support of Mrs. Hombs & family the remaining part of the year.

Comfort Homes returned in court the inventory and account of sales of the estate of Henry Homes deceased filed.

July Session 1802

Colo. John Williams was appointed guardian to Isaac Holms orphan of Henry Holms deceased and has entered into bond in the sum of one thousand pounds William Twiford Senr. & Major Isaac Patrick securities.

John Holms orphan of Henry Holms deceased came into open court and choose Colo. John Williams his guardian who entered into bond in the sum of one thousand pounds William Twiford Senr. & Major Isaac Patrick securities.

Ordered that Samuel Spruill Esqr. Major Isaac Patrick & Isaac Owens Esqr. be appointed they or a majority of them to audite and divide the estate of Henry Holms deceased and make return to next court.

October Session 1802

The division and settled account of Henry Holms deceased was returned in court by Samuel Spruill Esqr. filed - the above settled account amounts to 246 pounds, 1 shilling & 2 pence.

A second account of sales of the estate of Henry Holms deceased was returned in open court by Saml. Jackson Esqr. ordered filed.

January Session 1803

Ordered that Comfort Holms be allowed eleven pounds for the support of her deceased child.

Ordered that Samuel Spruill Esqr. Mr. Isaac Patrick and Samuel Jackson be appointed to divide the estate of the late deceased child of Henry Homs deceased among the representatives and make return to next court.

September Session 1809

Ordered that Thomas Hunnings be appointed guardian to Robert Holms Polly Holms Nancy Holms and Henry Holms orphans of Henry Holms deceased and has given bond in the sum of four thousand pounds currency William Howett and Maxey Davis {securities}.

Ordered that Samuel Spruill Thomas Garnett & Paul Thoroughgood be appointed to audite & settle the estate of Henry Holmes & also divide the same between the widdow and her children & make return to next court.

June Session 1810

Ordered that sirifaceous (?) issue against Thomas Hunnings guardian to the orphans of Henry Holms deceased to compel him to appear before the justices of the Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions to be held at the court house in Columbia on the 4th Monday in September next to give other security.

September Session 1810

Thomas Hunnings renewed his bond as guardian to the orphans of Henry Holms deceased in the sum of 2,000 pounds and has given Jesse Alexander and Robert Pledger his securities.

Ordered that Abner Alexander Esqr. John Swain & Samuel Spruill Esqr. be appointed to audite & settle the guardian accounts between Colo. John Williams of Currituck and the orphans of Henry Holms deceased and make due returns.

John Swain returned in court the audited accounts between the heirs of Henry Holms and Colo. John Williams of Currituck County and find a ballance due the heirs of $155.52 acct file.

April Session 1818

The audited accounts of Thomas Hunnings guardian to the heirs of Henry Holmes was returned & filed.

Guardian bond dated 27 Jul 1802 in the amount of five hundred pounds appointing Comfort Holmes guardian of the orphans of {blank} with Paul Thoroughgood & Samuel Jackson Esqr. securities.

Guardian bond dated 27 Sep 1809 in the amount of five thousand pounds appointing Thomas Hunnings guardian of Robert Holmes Polley Holmes Nancy Holmes & Henry Holmes orphans of Henry Holmes deceased with William Howett & Maxey Davis securities.

Guardian bond dated 25 Sep 1810 in the amount of {blank} appointing Thomas Hunnings guardian of {blank} orphan of Henry Holmes deceased with Jesse Alexander & Robert Pledger securities.

Guardian bond dated 14 Apr 1817 in the amount of one thousand pounds appointing Robert Holmes guardian of Henry Holmes and Nancy Holmes orphans of Henry Holmes deceased with Lemuel Basnight & Frederick Davenport securities.


Transcriber's Notes:
Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Henry Holmes to Comfort Carroon on 28 Apr 1791, Thomas Hopkins security; also Robert Holms to Ann Tweedy on 6 Mar 1821, Richard Roughton security.
It is very possible that there are two different Henry Holmes included in this file since the estate appears to be settled in 1803 for one Henry Holmes. Also there are two different guardians of the children of Henry Holmes at the same time.
