Hooker, Mary, 1786

Petition of Nathan Hooker administrator of the estate of Mary Hooker his late wife, daughter of John Sedgix deceased. John Sedgix died possessed of a large estate valued at 5,000 pounds and in his will left his daughter Mary, then the wife of Owen Williams, one half of his personal estate upon the death of his John's wife. After the death of Owen Williams his wife Mary married Joseph Whedbee who also died and then Mary intermarried with your petitioner in July 1783. Upon her death he was appointed administrator of her estate. When Ann Sedgix departed this life her will designated Hezekiah Spruill & Simeon Spruill as executors and became possessed of the estate of Ann Sedgix as well as that of John Sedgix. Your petitioner has frequently applied in a friendly manner to the executors of Ann Sedgix to pay him the said legacy but they have always evaded or refused to comply, pretending that very little if any of the estate came into their hands, and whatever may have your petitioner is not entitled to. Pray a subpoena be issued to bring the executors into court to answer this petition.
