In the name of God Amen November the sixth day Anno Dom 1766 I Stephen Hooker of the county of Tyrrel being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God: therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body: & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die: do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recomend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recomend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian butial at the descretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general Resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God: and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form

First I give and bequeath to Rosannah my dearly beloved wife my negro man slave named Mingo one mare Fanny one desk one chest one bed and furniture unto her heirs and assigns forever I also give unto my beloved wife the use and labour of my molatto female slave named Dinah and to her use during her natural life and at her decease as hereafter mentioned

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Hooker one female slave named Flora and one bed and furniture unto her her heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Hooker the lands & plantation which I purchasd from Nathan Miears reference being had to the deed for the bounds & quantity also one male slave named Harry and one female slave named Cherry unto him his heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Nathan Hooker one male slave named Jacob and one female slave named Jenney and one bed and furniture unto him his heirs and assigns forever: also I give unto my son Nathan my manor plantation with the lands thereunto belonging that is to say after the decease of my beloved wife unto him his heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Amelia Ann the molatto female slave aforenamed Dinah unto her after my wife decease or marriage with all the increase of the sd slave from the date hereof if any there shall be and one bed and furniture unto her her heirs and assigns forever

I leave one young horse named Hazard and one mare Sparrow and fifty acres of land lying on Aligator Lake to be sold at the descretion of my executors and the money arising thereby to be applyed towards paying my debts and other expenses: and the remaining part of my said estate to be equally divided between my beloved wife and my four children before named

I likewise constitute ordain and appoint my beloved wife Rosannah and my friend Andrew Knox and my two sons John and Nathan Hooker executors of this my last will & testament and I do hereby utterly disalow revoke and disanull all and every other former testaments wills legacies bequeaths and executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written

Tyrrell County March Term 1767
In the term of March Anno Dom. 1767 personally appeared John Hooker a witness hereunto & made oath that he saw and hard Stephen Hooker sign seal publish pronounce and declare this the within writing to contain his last will and testament & further saith that he was of sound mind & memory at that time & that he the deponent see Hezekiah Spruill & Benjamin Larance sign as witnesses
