March Session 1764

On motion of Sarah Fox for administration on her late husband Thomas Fox deceased, granted, and enters Joseph Hassell & Isaac Hassel securities in the sum of 500 pounds procla. money & qualified by taking the oath appointed by law.

Personally appeared Sarah Fox and exhibited an inventory of estate goods & chattells of Thomas Fox deceased and proved the same upon her oath ordered filed.

December Session 1766

On motion of Sarah Fox for a devision of the estate of Thomas Fox deceased ordered that Capt. William Barns, William Millburn, William Hemmings or any two of the aforesd. persons devide the same & make return to our next court.

September Session 1767

Joseph Hassell exhibited a division of the estate of Thomas Fox ordered filed. February Session 1769

Francis Ward is appointed guardain of John Fox, Rachell Fox, James Fox & Mary Fox orphans of Thomas Fox deceased and enters Edmd. s. Edwd. Smithwick & Andrew Long in the sum of two hundred pounds which is approved of by the court.

Personally appeared Francis Ward Edmd. son Edwd. Smithwick and Andrew Long and duly acknowledged their bond for the guardainship of the orphans of Thomas Fox deceased ordered to be recorded and filed.

August Session 1778

On motion of Francis Ward it is orderede that a summons issue for Jesse Merritt personally be and appear at our next court and render an acct. of the estate of Thos. Fox deceased and that the children or orphan of sd. Fox be summoned to appear at next court such as are of age to chuse their guardian.

November Session 1778

Ordered that on motion of Francis Ward that James Fox and Mary Fox be and they are hereby appointed under the care and tuition of Capt. John Warrington who are to take them and their estates into possession and settle the same estate and pay of those that are of age.

Ordered that Hezekiah Spruill Steven Swain & Nehemiah Norman audite the accounts of Jesse Merritt against the estate & orphans of Thomas Fox deceased and make returns to this court.

Ordered that John Warrington Esqr. be appointed guardain to James Fox & Mary Fox orphans of Thos. Fox deceased and in security with Hezekiah Spruill & Nehemiah Norman Esqr. in a bond of 500 pounds.

Ordered that Jesse Merritt deliver unto the hands of Mr. John Warrington guardain to the orphans of Thos. Fox all the estate in his hands belnging to sd. orphans.

Ordered that Joseph Hassell Senr. be sited to next court to render an account of what part of the estate he has in his hands belonging to the estate of Thos. Fox deceased.

February Session 1779

Ordered that Joseph Whedbee Joseph Pledger & Thos. Hoskins divide the estate of the orphans of Thomas Fox deceased among the said orphans and make returns to next court.

Ordered that Benjamin Hassell's entry for a certain piece of land where Thos. Fox formerly lived be set aside and that John Warrington Esqr. guardian enter the same in behalf of James Fox the heir to said lands now in the Services as a draughted soldier.

April Session 1779

The division of the estate of Thomas Fox deceased returned into open court by Thos. Hoskins ordered to be filed.

July Session 1779

Ordered that John Warington guardien to the orphans of Thos. Fox deceased sell such parts of the perishable part of the estate of Thos. Fox deceased as he shall think proper and make returns to next court.

October Session 1779

John Warrington Esqr. exhibited into open court on oath the acct. of sales of parts of the property of the orphans of Thos. Fox deceased ordered to be filed.

January Session 1780

Ordered that the sheriff cite Joseph Hassell to next court to make known what he has in his hands belonging to the estate of Thomas Fox deceased.

January Session 1781

Ordered that John Warrington Esqr. sell that part of the estate of Thos. Fox deceased in the hands of Joseph {Hassell} Senr. and on the sd Joseph Hassell refusing to deliver the said articles to be cited to next court.

July Session 1781

Ordered that Mr. Joseph Hassell Senr. deliver to John Warrington gardian to the orphans of Thos. Fox deceased one seven year old steer one cow & calf & one dry cow the property of said orphans by the next court.

April Session 1783

Ordered that Jesse Merritt in behalf of his wife have leave of administration on the estate of John Fox & James Fox and gave bond in the sum of 1,000 pounds specie & qualified John Hoskins & Nathan Bateman securities.

Appeared Jesse Merrit in open court & after an administration on the estate of John & James Fox produced an inventory of the said Foxes estate & ordered to be filed and that Thomas Hoskins John Hoskins and Joseph Pledger & likewise Hezekiah Spruill or either three of them be appointed to appraise and divide the estate of John and James Fox between Jesse Merrit in behalf of his wife Sarah Fox and Rachel Lawrence and a due return make to this court the next term.

July Session 1783

Ordered that Jesse Merrit have administration on the estate of John & James Fox deceased and that Thomas Hoskins Joseph Pledger Hezekiah Spruill and John Hoskins or three of them divide the estate of said John Fox and James Fox deceased between Jesse Merrit in behalf of his wife Ann Sarah and Keziah Merrit Rachel Laurence and Mary Fox and make due return to next term.

October Session 1783

Ordered that Jesse Merrit retain the property of John Fox in his hands until further orders suggestion being made orphans not dead and that Thomas Hoskins John Hoskins Hezekiah Spruill & Joseph Pledger or either three of them divide the estate of James Fox deceased between Jesse Merritt in behalf of his wife Rachel Larence & Mary Fox & John Fox & make return to next court.

January Session 1784

Hezekiah Spruill John Hoskins & Jas. Pledger returned into open court a division of the estate James Fox deceased between Jesse Merrit in behalf of his wife John Fox Obediah Laurence in behalf of his wife & Mary Fox and ordered to be filed.

Bond dated 17 Feb 1769 in the amount of two hundred pounds appointing Francis Ward guardian of John Fox, Rachel Fox, James Fox & Mary Fox orphans of Thomas Fox deceased, Edmd. son Edwd. Smithwick & Andrew Long securities.

Bond dated 17 Nov 1778 in the amount of five hundred pounds appointing John Warington guardian of James Fox & Mary Fox orphans of Thomas Fox deceased, Hezekiah Spruill & Nehemiah Norman securities.
