Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


January Session 1789

Ordered that Frederick Davenport have leave of administration on the estate of James Davenport son of James and give bond in 500 pounds Capt. Thomas Everitt and John Alexander son of Isaac securities & qualifyed accordingly.

Ordered that Frederick Davenport administrator of James Davenport son of James deceased have leave to sell the estate of the said deceased and make return to next court.

April Session 1789

Frederick Davenport administrator of James Davenport Junr. returns into court an inventory of the estate of the said James Davenport Junr. deceased on oath and ordered to be filed.

July Session 1789

William Freeman returns into court on oath an account of sales of the estate of James Davenport Junr. deceased amounting to 63 pounds, 7 shillings & 11 pence ordered to be filed.

Ordered that Frederick Davenport administrator of James Davenport Junr. deceased pay unto Zilpha Chesson the sum of six pounds for one year and a half past and 4 pounds for the ensuing year for the support and maintenance of a bastard child begot on the body of the said Zilpha Chesson by the said James Davenport Junr. deceased.

April Session 1791

Ordered that Frederick Davenport administrator of James Davenport son of James deceased be allowed a further allowance in his settlement of said deceased estate of fourteen pounds for the support & maintenance of a bastard child begot by him the said deceased upon the body of Zilpha Chesson until the said child come to the age of seven years (this order & an order passed July Term 1789 making the sum of 24 pounds paid by Capt. Jno. Davenport 25 June 91).

Ordered that Benjamin Spruill, Charles Spruill & Henry Norman or any two of them be appointed to audite & settle the accounts of Frederick Davenport administrator of Jas. Davenport son of James deceased and distribute the said deceased estate among the representatives of said deceased & make return to next court.

July Session 1791

Ordered that Frederick Davenport administrator of Jas. Davenport Junr. pay unto Zilpha Chesson alias Zilpha Bates the sum of eight pounds it being part of the 14 pounds allowed the administrator in his settlement of the deceased account with this court, which said sum is for the support & maintenance of a bastard child begot by the said James Davenport Junr. deceased on the body of the said Zilpha Chesson now Bates.

Henry Norman one of the dividers exhibits into court a division of the estate of James Davenport Junr. deceased son of James deceased ordered filed.

Henry Norman one of the auditors appointed last court to audite the accounts of Fredrick Davenport administrator of James Davenport Junr. deceased and returns the same into court and there appears a balance due from the administrator to the deceased estate of 38 pounds, 18 shillings & 6 pence ordered filed.

October Session 1791

On motion the petition of Frederick & Moses Davenport, ordered that Joseph Phelps, Simion Spruill Esqr. Henry Norman, Charles Spruill, & John Ansley make partition agreeable to the prayer of the petitioners of the lands of James Davenport Junr. deceased between the said Frederick & Moses Davenport and James Davenport son of Elkanah whom Levi Rowe is guardian to, & Isaiah & Uriah Davenport sons of James Davenport Senr. deceased to whom the aforesaid Frederick Davenport is guardian to and make return to the next court.

January Session 1792

Asa Phelps Deputy Surveyor exhibits into court a division of the lands of James Davenport Junr. deceased among the representatives of said deceased & ordere to be registered.

April Session 1792

Ordered that Frederick Davenport administrator of his brother Jas. Davenport deceased pay unto Zilpha Chesson alias Bates the sum of six pounds being in full of the sum of 14 pounds allowed her for the support & maintenance of a bastard child begot on her body by the said Jas. Davenport deceased.
