In the name of God amen: I Jesper Chapman of the County of Tyrrel (County) in the State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory thanks be to God for the same, and knowing that is appointed to all men once to die, do make this my last Will and Testament (that is to say) -

First and principally I recommend my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named; and as to such worldly Estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and dispose thereof in manner and form following.

Imprimus - I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Ann Chapman all and every my Estate both reil and personal of whatsoever kind unto her during her natural life; and after decease to my loving sister Elinor Chapman and her heirs forever.

Lastly - I constitute ordain and appoint my loving wife Ann Chapman and my beloved friend Benjamin Spruill Executors to this my last Will and Testament utterly disallowing and revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made rattifying and confirming this to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I the said Jesper Chapman have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd day of November in the year of our Lord 1778.

February Session 1779

The last will and testament of Jasper Chapman was proved in open court by the oath of John Anderson a subscribing witness ordered to be registered.

Appeared Ann Chapman in open court and qualified as extrix to the last will and testament of Jasper Chapman deceased ordered to be registered. Ordered that Mr. Secretary have notice that letters issue.

April Session 1779

Ann Phelps returns into open court the inventory of Jasper Chapman deceased estate ordered to be filed.

An true copy dated 14 Oct 1790 of the inventory of the goods and chattles of Jasper Chapman taken 1 Apr 1779.

Petition filed April Term 1790 by Eleanor Webster widow that Jasper Chapman in his will left all of his real and personal estate to his wife, Anne Chapman, and at her decease then to his loving sister, Eleanor Chapman and her heirs forever. After the death of Jasper Chapman his wife, Anne Chapman, married Josiah Phelps and Anne is since dead. Josiah Phelps has continued to unlawfully and unjustly detain this property from the petitioner.

Summons dated 8 Apr 1790 and issued 20 May 1790 for Josiah Phelps to appear at next court to answer charges in a petition by Eleanor Webster (widow) filed April Term last for certain property left her by her brother Jasper Chapman deceased.
