Transcriber's Notes:

Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Wilson Cahoon to Chloe Gibson on 4 Dec 183-; also Willson Cohoon to Elizabeth Jones on 10 Apr 1834. Elizabeth Jones was probably the first wife of Wilson Cahoon and Chloe the second and the mother of Wilson Cahoon.

Wilson Cahoon, son of Wilson Cahoon, appears in the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Tyrrell County in the household of Henry Gibson, aged 10 and 20 respectively.

North Carolina Troops, 1861 - 1865, A Roster lists Wilson G. Cahoon, private, in Company A, 32nd North Carolina Infantry Regiment, which consisted mostly of men from Tyrrell County. "Resided in Tyrrell County and enlisted at Portsmouth, Virginia at age 22, November 15, 1861. Present or accounted for until he was left at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as a nurse for the wounded and was captured on July 5, 1863. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, August 21, 1863. Died at Point Lookout on February 9, 1864. Cause of death not reported." Middle name probably Gibson since that was his mother's maiden name. He and my gggrandfather, George W. Merritt, were both wards and grandsons of Henry Gibson, my gggrandfather being the illegitimate son of Henry's son, Joseph. They both went to Portsmouth and joined Company A at the same time and both ended up in Point Lookout, George being lucky enough to survive.
