I Levi Bateman of the County of Tyrrell & State of North Carolina Planter being sick & weak in body but of sound mind & memory thanks be to God for the same calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do wish to make this my last Will & Testament in writing and dispose of such worldy property as it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with in the following manner & form Viz:

First - I leave my manner plantation to be sold on credit of twelve month, securing to Daniel Bateman and James Wood Execrs. of Benjm. Bateman the money due them for which the hold the said plantation in security at present ---

Item - I give & bequeath to my son John Bateman one negro man Ishmael to him & his heirs forever ---

Item - I give to Polly Sikes one negro boy named Moses to her and her heirs also one woman Judah ---

Item - I give & bequeath to my son Harmon Bateman one negro boy named Mingo also negro woman Marey ---

Item - I give & bequeath to my daughter Ann Tarkenton one negro boy named Port ---

I leave the residue of my estate to be sold and all my just debts to be satisfied & paid the balance divided between my children ---

I nominate & appoint Zebulon Tarkenton John Bateman Daniel Bateman & Harmon Bateman Execrs. to this my last will & Testament revoking all other ratifying this in witness whereof I set my hand & seal this 24h November 1819.

January Sesion 1820

The last will & testament of Levi Bateman deceased was exhibited & proved in open court by the oath of Nathan A. Phelps & Joseph Ansley two of the subscribing witnesses thereto at the same time appeared John Bateman & Harman Bateman executors therein named and qualified agreeable to law ordered that letters testamentary issue thereon with a coppy of the will annexed.

April Session 1820

Harmon Bateman one of the executors of the estate of Levi Bateman deceased returned on oath in open court an inventory & account of sales of said deceased & filed.

July Session 1820

John Bateman one of the executors of Levi Bateman deceased returned on oath in open court an account sales of land belonging to said deceased amount $1502 & filed.

John Bateman one of the executors of Levi Bateman deceased returned in open court on oath an account of sales of some swamp belonging to said deceased amount of $131.25 & filed.

October Session 1823

Ordered that John Beasley Wilson B. Hodges & James Wood be appointed to audite & settle the estate of Levi Bateman & make report to the next term.

January Session 1823

Ordered that John Beasley Wilson B. Hodges & James Wood be reappointed to audite & settle the estate of Levi Bateman deceased & make report to next term.

There are many documents relating to suits filed by and against the estate of Levi Bateman deceased for recovery of debts. These documents are all of little to no apparent value from a genealogical perspective.
