I, C. C. Basnight of Tyrrell County, North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory but getting old and knowing the uncertainty of human life do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.

Item - My desire is that my body be given a decent burial suitable to my station in life, and as my wife, children and friends may desire. I desire that my grave be properly marked with a tombstone suitable to mark that of my grave and that of my wife.

Item - I desire that my executor herein after named pay all my just debts and burial expenses.

Item - I give to my beloved wife Caroline all of my property both real and personal during her natural life to be used by her as to how she may see best, with the full right to dispose of all my chattle property as she may desire and the right to use all the rents and profits from the lands. ( except my compass and chain )

Item - I give to my son Benjamin B. Basnight my compass and chain and he is to pay to my son Bartlett Basnight Ten Dollars for his part of the same.

Item - My will and desire is that all my property of every kind and description not disposed of by my wife, be equally divided between J. S. Basnight, Leota Isler, Benjamin B. Basnight, Bartlette Basnight, Bouquette Weatherly, Carry Prichard, and Clifford Owens each to share and share alike.

Item - I hereby constitute and appoint Benjamin B. Basnight my son as sole executor to this my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I the said C. C. Basnight do hereunto set my hand and affix my seal.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said C. C. Basnight to be his last Will and Testament in the presense of us who at his request and in his presence do subscribe our names as witnesses thereunto.

A paperwriting purporting to be the last Will and Testament of C. C. Basnight, deceased, is exhibited for probate in open Court by B. B. Basnight the executor therein named. It is thereupon proved by the oath and examination of John L. Wright and Levi B. Wilson, the subscribibg witnessess thereto, who being duly sworn do depose and say and each for himself deposeth and saith that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him purporting to be the last Will and Testament of C. C. Basnight; that the said testator in the presence of this deponent subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing which is now shown bearing the date of ___ day of _____, 19__.

This deponent further saith that the said C. C. Basnight the testator aforesaid, did at the time of subscribing his name declare the said paper writing to be his last Will and Testament and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name as a attesting witness thereto at the request and in the presence of said testator.This deponent further saith that at the same time when the said testator subscribed his name and at the time the deponent subscribed his name as a attesting witness thereto the said C. C. Basnight was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a Will and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of this deponent: And further these deponents say not.

It is therefore considered and adjudged by the Court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last Will and Testament of the said C. C. Basnight deceased. Let the said Will, togeather with the probate be recorded and filed.
