In the name of God Amen the thirty first day of October in ye year of our Lord God 1767 I Jacob Blount of the county of Tyrrell and province of North Carolina planter being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind ye mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally & first of all I give and recommend my soul into ye hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend to ye earth to be buried in a Christian like and desent manner at ye discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned nothing doubting but at ye General Resurrection I shall receive ye same again by ye almighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of ye same in ye following manner and form -

Imprimis - I give to my well beloved wife Anne during her natural life or widdowhood my farm or manner plantation whereon I now live and after her death to my son Thomas and in case ye said Thomas should die without heirs lawfully begotten the said plantation to desend to my son John Lovick and if John Lovick dies without heirs to desend to my son Nathan and in case that Nathan dies without heirs to desend to my son Steven and his heirs -

Item - I give to my son Nathan one young mare of one and half old to him and his heirs for ever -

Item - I give and bequeath to my beloved wif Anne the remainder part of my estate both real and personal during her natural life and at her dissease to be equally devided amongst my children to wit - Steven Nathan John Lovick Mary Ester and Chloe -

Item - I will that my son Steven live on the plantation and cary on ye farm till he arrives to ye age of twenty one years and take and receive early and every one third part of what is raised on said plantation during ye said time and ye remainder part to support my wife and the other children I likewise constitute make and ordain my well beloved wife Anne Blount executrix and my son Steven executor of this my last will and testament of all and singular my land mesuages and tenements and I do hereby utterly disalow revoke and disanull all and every other former testaments wills and legasies bequests and executon by me in any wise before this time named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seall ye day and year above written -

Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


December Session 1767

Personally appeared Ann Blount executrix of the last will and testament of Jacob Blount deceased and qualified accordingly.

At the same time appeared Thomas Stubbs and on his oath proved the last will and testament of Jacob Blount deceased & further saith he was of sound mind & memory & that he see Benjamin Blount sign as a witness at the same time ordred that the clerk certify the same to the Secretary of the Province that letters testamentary issue accordingly.
