Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Andrew Armstrong to Joannah Spruill on 20 Dec 1787, John Rogers security; also Bennett Armstrong to Nancy Jones on 2 Feb 1803, William Neel security; also Franses Armstrong to Merriam Lucas on 31 Mar 1792, Benjamin Spruill Jr. security; also Rebecca Armstrong to Ebenezer Smith on 20 De 1787, Andrew Armstrong security; also Mary Armstrong to James Marriner on 11 Jan 1798, Abehu Spruill security; also Margarett Armstrong to Edward Hassell Sr. on 16 May 1790, Edward Hassell Jr. security.

Based on Margaret Armstrong being appointed guardian to "her five children" it seems likely that Soloman Armstrong had a previous marriage.
