Summons dated the second Monday of July 1819 for Lois/Louisa Alexander administratrix of David Alexander & John Combs administrator of Wm. Combs to appear at October court next to answer unto Abel Sawyer administrator of William Applegate and a plea of debt of one hundred and forty five dollars plus twenty dollars damage.

Petition on the first Monday after the fourth Monday in June 1823 by William Lewis & wife Sarah, & Franklin & Josiah Applegate, infants by their guardian Daniel Applegate heirs at law of William Applegate who died intestate in 1816. William Applegate was the father of your petitioners Franklin, Josiah & Sarah wife of Wm. Lewis and they are his heirs at law. Upon his death William Applegate left personal property to the amount of $1733.61 in the hands of his administrator Abel Sawyer, upon which he duly administered. Auditors of his own choice have taken account of his administration on 1 Feb 1823 allowing for all debts vouchers & commissions and it appears a balance of $553.27 1/2 is due your petitioners. Petitioners pray that Abel Sawyer be compelled to pay over the balance due and any other items that may apear to be due.

Petition January term 1828 by William Lewis and Sarah his wife of Somerset County, New Jersey humbly complaining that William Applegate died intestate in Tyrrell County leaving your petitioner Sarah and a son Josiah Applegate reputed to have been born in lawful wedlock but of this the petitioners are not protesting. William Applegate left a tract of land at Fort Landing on Little Alligator Creek of ten acres adjoining Lemuel Basnight & Ephraim Mann and others. The said Josiah is an heir at law of your petitioner's father, resides in the state of New Jersey and is an infant under twenty one years old. Petitioners are requesting division of this property.

Summons issued the fourth Monday of April 1833 for Abel Sawyer administrator of William Applegate to appear in court on the fourth Monday of July next. Judgement had issued against him on 25 June 1823 for $553.27 plus interest and $9.20 in costs and it was ordered that the goods and chattels of William Applegate in the hands of Abel Sawyer be sold to satisfy the debt. However no goods and chattels of William Applegate were found, so Abel Sawyer is to show cause why execution should not issue against his own goods and chattels lands and tenements to satisfy this debt, subject to a credit of $169.44 on 29 Jun 1829.

There are other documents relating to the suit of William Applegate's heirs against his administrator Abel Sawyer which don't add much to the information above.
