Petition 5 Aug 1916 by the descendants of Jesse Alexander concerning a tract of 600 acres of land sold by Solomon Hassell to Jesse Alexander in 1813 and in which some of the descendants still claim to have some right and title which they are contested in by the Richmond Cedar Works. There are many documents relating to this case but the main point of genealogical interest is the information concerning the descendants of Jesse Alexander who died intestate leaving five children as follows:
1. Abner Alexander who died intestate without leaving issue.
2. Joseph Alexander who died intestate and left surviving him four children as follows: (a) Martha who married Dennis Simmons, both of whom are dead without leaving issue; (b) Fannie A. Biggs, widow of John D. Biggs; (c) Josephine Ransom, who married Dr. Ransom, both of whom are dead leaving surviving them Fannie, who married Charles Davis; Minnie, who married David Matthews and Lina Martin, widow of Wheeler Martin, deceased; (d) Dr. Abner Alexander who died intestate leaving him surviving J{oseph} E{li} Alexander & W{ebster} S{pruill} Alexander. {The death certificate of Joseph Eli Alexander and Webster Spruill Alexander both show their mother was Dora Spruill.}
3. Thomas Alexander, who is dead.
4. George Alexander, who is dead.
5. Martha, who married Charles T. Spruill, both of whom are dead and left a son, Benjamin A. Spruill, who is also dead leaving the following issue him suriving (a) Nancy M. who married Cicero D. Duncan; (b) Eva B., who married Theodore Baxter and (c) Martha, who married C. E. Whitcomb. The descendants of Thomas & George Alexander are not named because George sold his share of this land to Thomas and then Thomas sold both shares to William Cahoon, who later sold to the Richmond Cedar Works.

There are also many documents relating to suits for recovery of debts due the estate that have little, if any, apparent genealogical significance.
