Alexander, John, 1823

Petition September Term 1823 by Samuel Leigh guardian of Joseph & Charlotte Alexander orphans of John Alexander deceased who states that Abraham Pledger was appointed administrator of the estate of John Alexander and has now exhausted the personal estate satisfying debts with a large balance remaining to be paid, which claims are reduced to judgement. John Alexander died seized and possessed of a tract of 80 acres adjoining the lands of James Swain, Ephraim Mann & others. Petitioner prays for an order to sell said land in order to satisfy said debts.

Bond dated 30 Sep 1823 in the amount of one thousand pounds appointing Samuel Leigh guardian of Joseph & Charlotte Alexander minor orphans, Ephraim Mann & James A. Spruill securities.

Summons issued 26 Apr 1824 for Charlotte & Joseph Alexander minors under the age of twenty one and represented by their guardian Samuel Leigh to appear at next court. Benjamin Spruill's executor Samel Spruill and the rest of the justices obtained a judgement against Abraham Pledger administrator of John Alexander for three thousand dollars. Abraham Pledger pleaded that the estate was fully administered which is true. Cause must therefore be shown why the estate of John Alexander now belonging to Joseph & Charlotte Alexander should not be sold to satisfy the judgement.

This file contains documents related to several other suits for recovery of debts that appear to have no genealogical value.
