Jacob joined the Confederate Army in Lenoir County on March 20, 1864 , enlisting in Company F of the 21st. North Carolina Infantry. Jacob Rumbley served in the Petersburg, Virginia Campaign February 6,1865. He was wounded in the cheek by a minnie ball which entered the right cheek and exited the back of the neck. He was wounded at Hatcher's Run, Virginia. He was captured in Stokes County April 11-12, 1865. He was confined at Nashville, TN and Louisville, KY. From there he was transferred to Camp Chase Ohio on May 4, 1865. He was released June 13, 1865 after taking the Oath of Allegience.

He married Mary E. Griffith December 18, 1861 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. Jacob died between 1900 and 1910 ( one source says 1914)and is buried in Forsyth County, North Carolina or Vise County, Virginia. In Vise Co. (Mary E. and Mary J. are buried at South Fork Pound, Virginia near Flat Gap Mountain. Jacob is not located there.)They had the following children: James L, Mary J., Alexander L. , S. Margaret(Roberts), Harriet B.(Adams), Leah M.(Collier), Elizabeth P.(McKnight-Garland-Marcum: wed three times), Lucnda Lizinka "Zinky"(Westmoreland), Delila A.(Newsom), Rachel Victoria (Mullins), N.L. amd Rebecca G. "Becky"(Creech).
He is the brother of John Rumbley (Rumley) who was born December 25, 1828 in Orange County, North Carolina. John married Sarah (Sally) Ann Newsom July 17, 1856 in Tobaccoville (Forsythe County) North Carolina. He died June 9, 1881 in Knob Noster, Missouri and is buried near Dunkensburg in the Mt. Zion Church Yard Cemetery, Johnson County, Missouri. She was born October 7, 1840 in North Carolina. She died September 6, 1914 and is buried in Mt. Zion Church Yard , Dunkensburg north of Knob Noster, Missouri (Johnson County).

Semira Jane (Bryant), Marshall McNeally (murderd in his blacksmith shop in May, 1880), Ulysses Grant, Amanda Turner (Strickland), Mary Emmaline (Bowling), James Henry, Martha Helen (Strickland), and Johnnie Estelle (Whitlock).

Edna (3rd born) born September 4, 1826 and married Peter Boston Garringer (date unknown). She died April 1, 1902 and is buried at Antioch Methodist Church , Tobaccoville, North Carolina.
Rachel (6th born) born in 1832 and married October 24, 1866 to John Turner in Guilford County, North Carolina.
Mary Catherine,the youngest (8th born) born 1834 and married January 22,1857 to Andrew Newsom from Guilford County , North Carolina.

He lives in Bryant, AR with his wife, Sherri Lynn, and youngest son, Daniel. His oldest son, Jason, is graduated and teaches at a highschool in St. Louis.
