Israel enlisted in Company I of the 63rd. North Carolina Infantry on July 12, 1862. He was discharged by reason of disability. The November-December, 1862 muster roll shows October 28, 1862. The Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond shows November 18, 1862. Israel apparently rejoined the Confederate Army at the Orange Courthouse Virginia on March 18,1864, enlisting in Co C 45th North Carolina Volunteer Infantry(CSA). (The Confederate Roster Volume XIII edited by Janet B. Hewitt states "Co C 45th North Carolina Volunteer Infantry(CSA). ) Israel was hospitalized at Danville, Virginia about August 2, 1864 with a gunshot would to the right hand. He returned to duty August 26, 1864. He was wounded on the right side of the head and captured at Winchester, Virginia September 19, 1864. He was hospitalized at Baltimore, Maryland. Israel was transferred to Point Lookout Maryland October 17, 1864. Paroled at Point Lookout about October 30,1864. Received at Venus Point Savannah River Georgia November 15, 1864 for exchange. Reported absent wounded through February, 1865. He was paroled at Greensboro on May 13, 1865. He died February 18,1895 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Greenbriar Road ,Highway 70 McLeansville,North Carolina.
He married Hettie Ann (Hubbard) April 21, 1859 in Guilford County, North Carolina. They had a daughter born in 1850. Hettie was born February 8, 1825. She died August 30, 1913 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Greenbriar Road ,Highway 70 McLeansville, North Carolina.
He is the brother of John Rumbley (Rumley) who was born December 25, 1828 in Orange County, North Carolina. John married Sarah (Sally) Ann Newsom July 17, 1856 in Tobaccoville (Forsythe County) North Carolina. He died June 9, 1881 in Knob Noster, Missouri and is buried near Dunkensburg in the Mt. Zion Church Yard Cemetery, Johnson County, Missouri. She was born October 7, 1840 in North Carolina. She died September 6, 1914 and is buried in Mt. Zion Church Yard , Dunknsburg north of Knob Noster, Missouri (Johnson County).
John and Sarah Rumley had the following children: Semira Jane (Bryant), Marshall McNeally (murderd in his blacksmith shop in May, 1880), Ulysses Grant, Amanda Turner (Strickland), Mary Emmaline (Bowling), James Henry, Martha Helen (Strickland), and Johnnie Estelle (Whitlock).

Mary Catherine,the youngest (8th born) born 1834 and married January 22,1857 to Andrew Newsom from Guilford County , North Carolina.

He lives in Bryant, AR with his wife, Sherri Lynn, and youngest son, Daniel. His oldest son, Jason, is graduated and teaches at a highschool in St. Louis.
