There were two Archibald McCormicks in Stewartsville District in 1850. Mine was Archibald M. McCormick who was married to Jennett Murphy (I believe). In his will, Archibald listed a sister-in-law as Margaret Murphy. If she was a spinster, then Archibald's wife was a Murphy, also. They had two daughters, Catherine and Mary, both unmarried. There was also a son, Murphy, who was killed in the Civil War and died a prisoner of war in Elmira, New York. I think there was also a son John. Mary was mother of Almena Jane McCormick, my great grandmother. Almena married JOhn Wesley Jernigan, a Civil War vet and a music teacher. They lived in John Station. Their daughter Mary Catherine Jernigan, my grandmother, attended Flora MacDonald College and married Kenneth Alexander Watson, a conductor on the Seaboard Railroad. My grandparents lived in Hamlet, Wilmington and lastly Clarkton, NC (Bladen County). My grandfather became ill in 1930 from kidney disease and was brought to Richmond, Virginia, where he died. He was buried at Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet. After his death, my grandmother moved to Richmond Virgina and raised five kids during the Depression. It was in Richmond that my dad, Eugene Foster Utley (originally from Rocky Mount) met my mom, Sara Catherine Watson and they were married in 1932. They had thre children, Eugene Foster Utley, III, Betty Lou Utley, and James Fleming Utley, all born in Richmond, Va.

Daniel and Martha (Monroe) Steward had at least one daughter by the name of Maggie Daniel Stewart. Maggie Daniel Steward married William Floyd Newton. I am helping my brother-in-law, James S. Newton, research his mother's (Maggie Daniel Steward's) family tree. We will appreciate any information that will help us in our quest.
