20th Regiment Company F
"Holmes Riflemen" and "Sampson No 2"
Known as the "Holmes Riflemen" and "Sampson No 2" the company raised in Sampson County and enlisted at Clinton on May 9, 1861. It was mustered into state service at Fort Johnston, Smtihville (Southport), Brunswick County, June 18, 1861 and was assigned to this regiment as Company F. After it was mustered into the regiment the company functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history for the war period is reported as a part of the regimental history.
