The Last Will and Testament of Sanders Carlisle



In the Name of God Amen, I, Sanders Carlisle, of the County of 

Robeson, being of Sound and Perfect Mind and Memory and Blessed Be 

God, Do this the twenty-fourth day of August, in the year of Our Lord 

one thousand eight hundred twenty-two, make and publish this my last 

will and Testament in the manner following: that is to say, First I give 

and bequeath unto my four sons, namely William Carlisle, John, James 

and Elias Carlisle each one dollar.  Unto my three daughters, Elizabeth 

Moore, Bessy Humphrey and Nancy Carlisle and unto the heirs of my 

daughter Catherine Humphrey, each one dollar.  The whole of the rest of 

my estate both real and personal unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Carlisle 

to have and to hold her lifetime and at her death to dispose of as she sees 

proper.

  And I hereby make and ordain my son (illegible word), Elias Carlisle, 

executor of this my last will and testament.  In witness whereof, I, the 

said Sanders Carlisle, have to this my last will and testament, set my 

hand and seal this day and year above written

Signed, sealed, published and declared by said Sanders Carlisle, the 

testator, as his last will and testament in the presence of us who were 

present at the time of signing and sealing thereof.
