On the 17th, a large concourse of our friends met us at the Mineral Springs, Richmond County, and the ladies of Richmond presented
the company with a beautiful flag; on both sides inscribed, "Fortune favors the Brave." Miss M.E. Dockery made an eloquent and
appropriate address on the occasion, which was responded to by Alex. McKay in an eloquent manner. After several eloquent speeches, the
Boys sang " the Richmond Boys, " and bid adieu to their friends; and fathers and mothers resigned their sons to the mercies of
the God of battles. Though their hearts were sad within, they left with bouyant spirits for the field where glory awaits them, amid the
fairwell shouts of admiring friends, and the waving of handkerchiefs by the fair ones of the assembly. We took the cars at Trollinger's at
6 o'clock next morning. At Wilmington we met with many old acdquaintances; arrived at Goldsborough at 8 o'clock at night, and at Raleigh
at 1-2 past 6 o'clock next morning. We then called the roll and marched from Camp Mangum, which is about 4 and a half miles west of Raleigh,
where we arrived very much exhausted from the want of sleep; many took violent colds on the tour, but all are improving; only two on the
sick list. Respectfully yours, D.R. McInnis, O.S.. N.C. Presbyerian will please copy.
