	Quebec, Canada.

Notes for CAMERON MORRISON:
Cameron A. Morrison was a Senator and a Representative from North Carolina; born near Rockingham,
Richmond County, N.C., attended private schools at Ellerbe Springs, N.C., and at Rockingham; studied
law; admitted to the bar in 1892 and commenced practice in Rockingham; mayor of Rockingham 1893;
presidential elector at large in 1916; moved to Charlotte, N.C., and continued the practice of law;
Governor of North Carolina 1921-1925.

"Cousin Cam" Morrison, besides serving as governor, was a United States Senator in 1931 and 1932,
having been appointed to fill a vacancy. A decade later he was elected as a U.S. Representative
and served in the House from 1943 to 1945. In his later years, sporting a flowing mane of snow-white
hair and wearing a white suit and hat, he looked every inch the senator. All of us in the family
know the story of his marriage to the widow Watts and his becoming the squire of Morrowcroft outside
Charlotte, the farm that later became just about the priciest suburban land in North Carolina.

An interesting (to me) sidelight. Cousin Cam's Republican opponent in the 1920 gubernatorial election
was John J. Parker, who in 1930 while serving on the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, was appointed
by President Hoover to the Supreme Court. But the Senate refused to confirm him after bitter opposition
by, among others, labor unions and the NAACP. Apparently, some racist remarks he'd made in the 1920
gubernatorial contest came back to haunt him. Parker ultimately became chief judge of the Fourth Circuit
and had a long, distinguished judicial career. Source: Jim Connah Apr 11, 2008
