John A. Cameron, a stout short man, and wife, Sarah E. Blue Cameron, a tall, slender woman moved
from Moore County in their early married life to Richmond County. They owned a small farm on Joes
Creek, located about six miles East of Hamlet, NC. A well traveled country road (probably the Old
Laurel Hill Road) ran through their land and directly in front of their home. The well with an old-
fashioned wooden trough was in the yard near the road and proved a good source of water for travelers
to water their horses and get a cool drink for themselves. It was an ideal place to exchange the local
news, and maybe stay for dinner or spend the night.
