THE COVINGTONS OF RICHMOND COUNTY

Daguerreotype of Eliza Covington Weill
(b. 1860).

The Covington surname is one of the oldest and most common in Richmond and neighboring counties.
For the Covington genealogist, there is a great deal of information readily available and a great
deal that is not (at least not readily). Several books have been written, but most of them are either
out of print or difficult to find and expensive. A couple of those books have been accused of containing
at least some errors, and most of them don't cover the latest generations. There may be several County
residents who have vast knowledge of Covington genealogy, but out-of-state researchers may find it
difficult to find answers they seek.

This site has been made available by Myrtle Bridges and NC GenWeb as a repository for Covington family
data. What you find presented here right now is intended as a start. It is neither complete (not even
close), nor is it error-free.

Please help complete it by adding your knowledge and by helping us correct any errors. Please send
emails, GEDCOM files, Covington photos, text files, charts, copies of wills, deeds, old letters… whatever
you have (To avoid posting private information about living persons, please send nothing after the 1920's)
to either Barry K. Hedden or Myrtle Bridges Thanks! Barry Hedden    November 15, 2004
