I Archd. McNair do solemnly swear that the number of persons set forth in the return made by me agreeably to the provisions of the act of Congress entitled an act to provide for the taking of the sixth census or Enumeration of the Inhabitants The United States has been ascertained by an actual inquiry at every dwelling house or a personal inquiry of the head of every Family in exact conformity with the provisions of the said act; and that I have in every respect fulfilled the duties required of me by said act to the best of my ability and that the return aforesaid is correct and true according to the best of my knowledge & belief.

Be it remembered that on this 28th day of September one thousand Eight hundred & forty came before me Tristram Bostick a Justice of the peace ****** in the said county Archd. McNair as assistant to the Marshal of the District of North Carolina for performing the duties prescribed by the act of Congress to provide for taking the Sixth Census or Enumeration of the Inhabitants of the United States and for other purposes is and took and in my presence subscribed him the above oath.
