Notes below are shared by Charlie White 1100 Hanover Drive Concord NC 28027-7831:

(6) Harriet Gibson, Hiram Gibson, Jeptha Gibson, Pleasant Gibson, Ziba Gibson and William Gibson are children of William D. Gibson and Charlotte, possibly Dawkins.
Harriet b c1823 md Elijah Chance
Hiram b c1825 1st md Catherine Hamer (21 Dec 1831-3 Jul 1858); 2nd md 5 Sep 1872, Richmond Co to Sarah Ann Covington; 3rd md 5 Mar 1878, Cumberland Co to Mary Bullard
Jeptha b c1827 md Anna Hannah
Pleasant b c1830 md Mary Hannah
Ziba b c1831 md Lydia Hannah
William D b c1833 md Martha--------- (following children would not have been school age in 1842)
Caroline b c1837 md Malcom B Smith
Nelson B b c1839 md Eliza Jane Brown

Whilst my beginning point in working with this family was Blanche Gibson Hamer's compilation of the Gibson family, I confirmed the Wm D Gibson children from a document in his Estate Papers = W. D. Gibson, Richmond County, 1863, at Archives & History Search Room, Raleigh. April term 1863, Sarah Gibson, widow petitions the court. William D Gibson died intestate, Richmond County. Children & heirs:
Hiram Gibson
Harriett, intermarried with Elijah Chance
Jeptha Gibson
Pleasant Gibson
Ziba B Gibson
William D Gibson
Caroline Smith md to M. B. Smith
Nelson Gibson

I derived birth dates from censuses---in fact, I haven't found a tombstone for my ancestor, Hiram W. Gibson, who was on the 1880 Richmond County Census but was dead by 1892 when his daughter Della Frances Gibson (who had md her cousin Louis Pipkin Gibson) sold land that had been deeded to Hiram. The 1842 listing of the children matches well: the two youngest weren't old enough to be in school. Also, widow Sarah McNair was a subsequent wife, and had no issue, per her father's estate papers. Hiram's two subsequent marriages both came after the change to marriage licenses, which asked the mother's name: he gave "Charlotte" and "C" Gibson as his mother's name in his applications.
