U. S. Colored Troops - Person County

 

The following is a listing of some of the soldiers who were born in Person County, North Carolina, and who enlisted to serve in what was known as the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. Most of these men were apparently living in other locations when they enlisted, and these records can be helpful to those researchers looking for what may have happened to some of their ancestors. re-established on Dec. 1863 as Phillip Wallis where he served as a scout.  Deserted June 25, 1864, took 1 knapsack, haversack & canteen; Recovered Aug. 20, 1864, in confinement at Ft. Smith, awaiting trial, where he became sick and was hospitalized until mustered out April 2, 1865
