Reuben Proctor to John & Joseph Proctor - 9 August 1823

State of North Carolina  
    This Indenture made the Ninth day of August 1823, Perquimans County, Between Reuben Proctor of the County aforesaid of the one part, John Proctor and Joseph Proctor Sons of the said Reuben Proctor of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Reuben Proctor for and in consideration of the Natural Love and affection which he hath and beareth unto the Said John Proctor and Joseph Proctor his Sons, hath given, granted, aliened and confirmed unto the said John Proctor and Joseph Proctor all the Lands,Tenements and improvements of every kind whatever, that I the said Reuben Proctor Doth own or Possession hold or enjoy in fee Subject to such exceptions and restrictions As indulged here in after Contained to be divided in the following manner and to descend as hereafter expressed, the lands houses and improvements of every kind, whereon I now live adjoining the lands of Eley Brinkley and others Containing thirty acres more or less I give my Son John, but with these exceptions and conditions, should he the said John die without lawful I give then and in that event all the foresaid  land and tenement to descend to my Son Joseph and further I do hereby reserve to myself and my wife Rachel each Jointly and individually, the use, enjoyment and Possession of all and every part of the use Enjoyment and Quiet Possession of all and every part of the aforesaid land, and tenements for and during the term of our natural lives, and then to my Son in manner and form as before expressed.
    I give unto my son Joseph all the part of my land Which I Purchased of William Williams adjoining the land of John Gatling and others containing eighteen Acres more or less and should he die without lawful heirs, then and
in that case, all of the said land, and tenements to descend to my Son John, and also I do reserve the use and occupation and enjoyment of the said lands and premises to myself and my wife Rachel, each Jointly and individually the term of our Natural lives and then as before mentioned to my Son Joseph to be governed expressly in conformity with the true intent and meaning of the above gifts and reservations.
    In testimony Whereof I the said Reuben Proctor have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date first written signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of.

Rachel Proctor to John Proctor - 26 July 1825

    This Indenture made and concluded the 26th day of July 1825, Between Rachel Proctor widow of Reuben Proctor of the one part and John Proctor of the County of Perquimans and State of North Carolina of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Rachel Proctor for and in Consideration of the sum of fifty Dollars Currency of the State aforesaid to her in hand paid by the said John Proctor this whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said Rachel Proctor herself to be therewith fully contented satisfied and paid have granted bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said John Proctor his heirs and assigned a certain tract or parcel of land, lying and being in the county and state afor mentioned or otherwise my right of dowry or lifetime right of all the said lands formerly belonging to the aforesaid Reuben Proctor Containing Fifty Acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the said land and premises hereby bargained and sold with all the appurtainances thereunto belonging unto the said John Proctor his heirs and assigned for ever in witnessed whereof the said Rachel Proctor hath hereunto set her hand and seal the Day and year first above written and signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us.
